The Hannibal Lecter 3 DVD Collection came out today. I just bough mine; in includes Man Hunter (which I haven't seen), Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal. I had bought Red Dragon onsale a few weeks back for $4.99 so I have all the Hannibal shit.

Circuit City has it for $19.99 if anyone is interested.

What's Man Hunter? Haven't heard of it and I dig the other 3

They always release a collection right before an addition to the collection comes out. In this case Rise of Hannibal or whatever it's called. Why isn't Red Dragon included anyway?
TrueWest
Manhunter is the first movie with the Hannibal Lector character, i think it was actually based on the REd Dragon book. It was done by Michael Mann so I'm excited to watch it since I like Michael Mann.

I have no idea why Red Dragon wasn't included. Kinda sucks IMO.

Doesn't make a lot of sense either, because...

**SPOILER**

Silence of the Lambs, Red Dragon and Hannibal all deviate from the original storyline somewhat, and Silence of the Lambs couldn't even really follow Manhunter in terms of sequence and storyline. It's a good flick though, just a bit different than the other three and shouldn't really be packed with two of em IMO.

And I didn't like Hannibal all that much, so I'm not too sure I'll buy this set.

Manhunter's my favorite of the series. Very dark and stylish. Mann's best movie. Tom Noonan was creepy as hell as the killer.

I wonder if Hannibal Rising will be any good.

Seriously the most overrated horror movies of all-time. I can't stand them. Give me the Hellraiser sequels or The Omen sequels any day over this crap.

No, it won't. The book is ASS, and from all indications and early screenings, the movie is worse.

They are not horror movies. Silence of the Lambs was just a well-done cop thriller. The others are no different, except Hannibal wanted and tried to be creepy and "horror-ish" and failed miserably.

Either way, still way overrated. The first time I saw the original, it was so built up to me "Oh, it'll scare the shit outta you". Some parts were decent, but I just didn't like it. But then again, I tend to hate movies that are hyped up anyway.

Hannibal rising supposed to suck eh? Well, unless I start hearing people say it's good, I'm gonna pass. I didn't have terribly high expectations.

It (both book and movie) were done hurriedly, to cash in. The book reads like a bad movie script, making it painfully obvious it was intended to be a movie from jump. The movie is being released barely a month after the release of the book, which is not what you do unless you just want to make money (you hope).

I honestly think they tried to get the movie out there to coincide with the book release, because persons who read primarily, usually wait to hit the theatres. By the time they finish the book - or throw it across the room - those who go to movies instead of read will have already gone. The readers won't go see the movie after reading the book, and the movie folk won't go buy the book after seeing the movie, but they have sucked in both markets before either can warn the other.

At best, a wait for cable flick.

or netflix, as may be the case.

Manhunter is a pretty good flick. I actually don't generally like Michael Mann's stylish "Miami Vice" vibe, but it worked OK in this movie, and homie playing the detective did a really good job.

Biggest disappointment: Hannibal (the Movie). The book is excellent, but the movie is ass. By this time, Hopkins is mailing it in. Basically the whole movie is Hopkins saying something urbane like "good evening" and then "swish" slicing you open w/ a scalpel.

2-3 scenes from it were classic (and if you've seen it, you know which scenes), but even then not very well done IMO. Julianne Moore sucks as Clarice and the rest of the movie was just dragging. It didn't carry the same tension or fright as either Red Dragon or Silence.

Unless I'm mistaken, Thomas Harris (the author) wrote the screenplay BEFORE he actually wrote the book. So yes, this was definitely a cash-in move.
