Incidentally, David Haye was leaving the MGM Grand and was right beside me in the sea of people waddling through the arena and hotel.
1. He was with 2 smoking hot women.
2. He was cool enough to take a photo with every fan that approached him.
3. He does not look like a big dude.
4. His hands are really small. No wonder he busted one on the Yeti. He took a picture with my buddy (who is about 5'11"/180lbs and hands were noticably smaller.

Interesting if Hopkins really means it. Some have talked of Haye knocking Hopkins out. I see that as the least likely outcome if this is really made - unless Hopkins suddenly becomes shot overnight. Hopkins is a lot like James Toney IMO. It must be completely disheartening for his opponents to finally hit him solid after trying unsuccessfully round after round, only to find out that the dude has an iron chin. I see Haye having much the same experience. He may outwork Hopkins, but I think Hopkins would still make this close at least and I wouldn't count him out at all.

Bernard was kind of a mentor to Haye a couple of years ago, before he got the big fights at cruiser. they spent a fair bit of time training together in Miami and where good friends, so Hopkins may have picked out a few weaknesses that he thinks he can capitalise on. but i think since Haye has gotten bigger, more confident and more experienced, B-Hop might be wrong in thinking he can steal a fight from that guy he used to work with.

Looks like Haye has become a star. Bernard wouldn't fight Haye if Haye was not a PPV attraction. Bernard, at this stage of his career, cares about money.

Big risk for Hopkins. Props to him if he wants to make the fight.
The only way Hopkins gets KO'd in his career is if he fights at heavy. Haye being smallish reduces this chance but he can still crack.
Hopkins has a ton of skill and still has the knack of making punchers look average. Interesting fight.
Seems still a little like a mythical matchup at this point though.

Funnily enough I think a big lumbering Heavy has LESS chance than a fast skillful guy like Haye of koing Hopkins. Hayes speed allows him to find a way through the defence. Even with Bernards skills Haye punches hard enough to trouble him by punching him with his guard up.
Hopkins WAS talking about Adamek at one point, and Adamek has publicly called for a fight with Haye now. Either fight would be fun.

Well, I guess you're right. Haye would have an easier time landing on Hopkins, but I don't know, Hopkins seems to have the ability to take some punches. I've never seen him buzzed. The worst recently was when JT made him stumbleback in their first fight. But that was purely a balance thing.
I don't know though, taking a punch from Klitschko is entirely different.
But agreed. Haye vs either man is a good matchup.

I first thought this fight is unrealistic, but the more I think about it, I think it can be dubbed as the sequel to Holyfield-Lewis, the next great US-UK rivalry in heavyweight. Hopkins always has wanted a piece of heavyweight title, probably due to the fact Roy and Toney have it, and a realtively small but legitimate heavyweight champion like Haye might be ideal for him. B-Hop actually talked about fighting Valuev a while ago and Haye has beaten Valuev now, so maybe Hopkins is not doing this just for the attention.

Some of Hopkins biggest wins were against the 'bigger' puncher. Trinidad, Tarver, Pavlik. Since this is his bread and butter, regardless of size, Hopkins win by UD.

That was on HBO, not Hopkins nor Toney. They both legitimately seemed to want to fight each other. HBO put a number out there for what they'd be able to split (I wanna say $5 million or $3 million, but I can't remember), and then cut the number in half when they actually started negotiations. Toney and Goossen said "Fine, then we get 50+%" and Hopkins said "Fuck that, I'm the one going up in weight and taking the risk." Toney and his camp felt they'd be the draw and Hopkins was coming off pulling so-so numbers. So the fight got trashed. They even had a big article about it in Ring.

If Hopkins works more against Joe he get's hit more. That was one puzzle he couldn't solve, and why he began to dissolve in the late rounds, lawyering for low blows and time outs.
I think he'd do well against Haye, but don't expect it to be exciting.

I'd be more than happy taking a friendly avatar bet or similar if that fight were to come off. Bernard hasn't had a stoppage win since De la Hoya. He'd be lucky to come into the fight weighing more than 205lbs. He wouldn't stop Evander.

I highly doubt he would knock out Evander, but that doesn't change the fact that Hopkins averages 452 more punches thrown per fight than you mentioned.
Since there was no official compubox for Holyfield's previous few fights, it's tough to compare, but one unofficial count put Evander's output in the Valuev fight at just 189 total or about 16 per round.
