411mania – OK so we've all been following along on Twitter and we've caught the little verbal bashing between you and Andre Berto...how did that get started? I understand he got a little upset over an interview you gave.

Shane – Well basically I just told the truth. I didn't lie, I just said that I didn't want to hurt this man's career and he got upset about that. I don't think I said anything wrong but whatever, it is what it is and the truth hurts so what!

411mania – Well we know you two have been going back and forth in terms of the contract and we saw that you tweeted that Berto has signed on; so is this fight now official?

Shane – I believe so! I was informed that he signed the contract so it's on. We'll fight on January 30 at Mandalay Bay and I'm pretty excited about that.

411mania – Will this be on HBO or PPV?

Shane – You know at this point I think all my fights will be on PPV. Berto I think is PPV material...we can fight on PPV and I'm a PPV fighter but we can do either or – I just want to fight.

Berto better hope Mosley has lost a step because if Shane is in top form like he was against Margarito then Berto is in for a beating.

According to ESPN.com, HBO is interested in airing the December 12 clash between WBC heavyweight titlist Vitali Klitschko and Kevin Johnson
on tape delay. Given that the Klitschko-Arreola fight did excellent numbers, HBO Sports honcho Ross Greenburg tells ESPN that he is hoping to get the fight matched up with the live coverage of Diaz-Malignaggi rematch, which also features Victor Ortiz vs. Antonio Diaz.

AndrewP
1. Will Berto be able to take 5 minutes away from Twittering (twatting?) his girlfriends to train?
2. PPV? Really?
3. Klitschko vs. Johnson. That should be interes........zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

neither mosley or berto are ppv material. U need an A side to the promotion and all u have here is a B and a C

Hardcore fight fans love Mosley. If you get a very good undercard I could see justifying a PPV...maybe. But it would have to be one heck of an undercard.
Integrital
I wouldn't mind paying like $19.95 for it if it had a pretty good undercard, but Shane isn't a PPV fighter by himself.

(EDIT)

Shane is clearly a "household" name, but IMO a lot of that has to do with the "Sugar" moniker. I don't think I've ever heard any of my casual or even non-fan friends talk about the guy without referring to him as "Sugar Shane Mosley." No matter what made it that way, you can't point to any of his PPV's where he was the marquee star and say it sold very well.

I agree with that. After the 20k people who showed up and saw him dismantle Margarito, I was curious if that would finally propel him to being a draw. Unfortunately, I think the year off has severely slowed or stopped that momentum.

Not to be a douche, but a lot of those people showed up to see Margarito and expected him to destroy Shane. Don't get me wrong, Shane had a LOT of fans there and many were just LA residents looking for a good fight between 2 LA-area-based fighters. BUT, if we were to assign most of those people a fighter they were backing, it would've been Margarito.

Regardless, as you said, he's pretty much wasted his momentum. On top of that, there might be more people who remember that fight for the controversy and Margarito cheating than for Shane beating the shit out of him.

brain damage.

On the positive side, Mosley can walk around a mall and not be bothered.
Primetime
PPV my ass. Unless its got a tight undercard no way in hell this is a PPV fight. In fact this is a fight that belongs on the undercard of a PPV. The only this works is if GBP gives us this fight plus 4 more good ones and charge only 29.95

WAR BERTO!!!

Well I doubt that will happen since he said the fight will be on HBO. If HBO stays the course then this has WCB written all over it.

Didn't read the article. 411mania.com just sounds like a site that would give my computer some nasty virus. Like nano-herpes or something.

It's a fight that definitely belongs on HBO though. Not PPV. I'd have zero problem with it winding up on HBO.

Nah, it's a legit site. My bad, it didn't really specify if HBO was backing the fight, but I would assume they are since they have been interested in it for a while now. Still, I'd put money on it landing on HBO.

Shane beat Oscar in LA in their primes before a big PPV audience and that didn't make him a star. He then proceeded to sell a few thousand seats in theaters. If it didn't happen then, it just wasn't in the cards. Shane is an excellent fighter but he has never had "it". It didn't help that he didn't have an Arum building him up early. Shane had Cedric Kushner then Shaw who aren't exactly known for their marketing skills.

Inty, what do you think of Shaw?

Damn, Dudley Doo Wrong is talking shit. Between talk like a pirate day (Roy) and And Ray Mercer, you are kinda done with locals but Tony Mantana is not going to conquer Florida or anything else. He's going out worse than Sam though.

Well Berto and Mosley has no business to be on PPV. God that is just bad business to put that fight on PPV and expect to make a profit. Anyway thought I think that Mosley is probably going to take Berto out. I think it is fair to say that Berto's chin isn't very good and that he has been protected since winning the title. He still throws those crappy punches too and lives his chin up in the air. The only question is how much ring rust does Mosley have and will age finally catch up to him? If not, this is going to be a beatdown.

It would sicken me if all of us 'hardcore' boxing fans refused to pony up for a Mosley PPV card... Especially in a fight that on paper looks to be an entertaining and competative title unification between two hungry fighters...

Mosley has done more than enough for me to fork over $50 for a PPV card he headlines. More so than anyone not named Pacquiao...
