PWilliams-SMartinez will take place in AC
JDiaz-PMal might end up in Las Vegas, not Chicago
Lots of talk of them switching dates and stuff, but this is what it looks like it will be

Much better than LV

Yeah, that sounds cool and it should draw there as well. BTW, I'm not a huge Diaz fan but you have to give him credit for this. If I was him no way would I do a rematch.

I don't see much downside for Diaz taking the rematch. For starters, it's going to score points with fans. Plus, I'd imagine he's getting paid okay, and there's no danger of getting hurt. Even if he loses, it was to a bigger man, and it's likely not going to effect his chances of getting a big fight at 135.

How so, Steve? There will be little to no people travelling to Chicago other than the entourages. They better promote the shit out of the card or nobody will show up.
I think a smaller casino venue in Vegas would have been better.

I do not understand why either of these fighters keeps getting televised dates.
I would not rank either in the top 5 at 135 or 140, and the first fight wasn't even that good. Paulie didn't really do shit the first half and then Diaz completely faded in the second half. The only thing that made the fight compelling was Paulie bitching about things that turned out to be mostly true, and then the wrong guy winning. They're boring and flawed fighters.
As for Paul, Pavlik really left him in a shitty spot. He isn't going to sell any tickets for Sergio, and Sergio is probably going to make him look bad. I see a 116-112 type decision for Paul.
Outside of Pac/Cotto and the Super 6, I am really not too thrilled with the fight game right now. Not trying to be a Debbie Downer but honestly its not too exciting right now.

I think that's a popular sentiment. Pac/Cotto is great, but this year's close is not the best.

Sadly, I have to agree... and by sadly, I mean that the fight belongs in a casino if it's not taking place in Houston.
Pointing out the number of Mexicans and Italians in Chicago is as idiotic as it is stereotypical, and really just DiBella's typical lazy approach to promoting a fight.

Not really.
The only place where it was going to sell was Houston, New York, or Atlantic City. Houston would have been about 15,000. Atlantic City I think they would have used the ballroom and gotten 1,600 (plus a $250,000 site fee). New York I think would be the theatre in MSG which would be 5,000 tops. Chicago is a very strange place to have the fight (especially if there's no site fee) but I suppose it's geographically neutral. It's funny in a way it's like literally just picking a place in the middle and having a fight there. DiBella's done this before like when he had Spinks/Taylor in Memphis and said it's a neutral place. Funny thing is more people ended up rooting for Spinks by the time the night was over.

Diaz is def. top 5 at 135. No one currently touches his resume at that weight class.

I don't completely disagree with you guys, however, Chicago has done well with certain fights and they do have a consistent fight program with 8 Count( who is handling the bulk of the local promotion). This is not a Vegas fight, IMO.
this doesn't really belong in Chi-town, it belongs in Vegas even less
Actually, this fight belongs back in Texas and let them bring in some out of state judges and any referee not named Larry Cole

Good to know that Dominic is involved. And yeah, UIC should prove to be a better fit for Juan than, say the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, where he and Julio played to a house full of empty seats.
When I said casino, though... A/C or Foxwoods was what I had in mind, although AC is out since P-Will/Martinez is there the week before. I agree, though, definitely not a Vegas fight.

Jake, if Goossen would've flip flopped dates, this fight would've been in AC in the small ballroom( but since he didnt, they ended up in the Windy City). Now, PWill/Arreola will play host to a bunch of empty seats in AC

ha, yep pretty much.
also worth noting - for those who believe chicago will proved to be adopted home court advantage for Juan, Illinois in general is noted for more fights going to the cards than nearly any other state, and rarely produces bad decisions.
Their being in the Midwest offers the false perception that it's a breeding ground for journeymen and where fighters can pad their records, but the IL AND Indiana commissions are well oiled machines, with officials mostly on the up and up. A couple of bad refs, but fair officiating for the most part.

It's a shame the two promoters couldn't just put Paul/Sergio & diaz/Paulie on the same card in AC. That might have sold decently, better than two empty arenas.

Or even add Clottey/Quintana, make it a tripleheader, and allow Lou to serve as the lead promoter since he'd have a horse in every race (Martinez, Paulie and Quintana).
I'd rather see a card like that, than Vic and Arreola in comeback fights that aren't quite HBO-level.

True, looking at the rankings you could really only fairly put JMM ahead of Diaz at 135 since Nate is no longer at the weight. I would pick Guzman, Valero, and Demarco to beat him though. I just don't think he's very good.
