Cuban Joel Casamayor faces off against Puerto Rico's Hector Camacho, Sr. in a Lightweight battle of the Carribean.

Who do you fancy, gents? The crafty (&, at times, dirty) wile of Casamayor, or the flash, sizzle & swiftness of Camacho? It's a twelve-rounder...

I never saw Casa fight a guy anything like Camacho so it's tough to say. I will say that Casamayor was a hugely underrated puncher in his prime (still is probably), and that he had the pop to make Hector put on his track shoes. Not sure that helps Casa terribly much though. Camacho UD.

Just to be clear, this is, naturally, the best possible Lightweight incarnation of both men, not the faded, current Casamayor.

They were both fast. Hector was faster though. He had more movement. I think Camacho would win a decision. I dont know how effective Casa would be looking for Camacho.

Hector 9-3 with some close rounds.

Camacho UD, 9-3/8-4 sounds reasonable.

That's my concern for Casamayor --- that, & people forget Camacho, whatever happened in his later career, was an outstanding Lightweight fighter. If Casamayor's to succeed, he has to not only slow Camacho down, but the whole pace of the fight. Make it ugly, & get dirty. He was good at that, very good even, so he'd have his chances. It's just a very difficult thing when you're a counter-puncher, & you're up against a man who's quicker. You often lose rounds early on as you learn to adjust to their rhythm, & time them. That could prove fatal.

Casamayor was always better than people thought of him, though, so who knows? My gut says Camacho, though.
