My drink of choice...On my 4th right now, and I started wondering...If I'm going 1/2 & 1/2, this count's as my daily dose of Vitamin C, right? Or does the alcohol negate this? Any chemists on here? Thanks.

Cheers

That is a very good question. My hangover cure is a 'Passion & Chilli Caipirinha' - Leblon CaƧhaca, passion and Orange fruit juice, fresh lime and fresh chilli for extra kick.

It just looks and tastes just like fruit juice - so I figure 3-4 after a night out must be good for me. Hair of the dog + fruit for the day. Right?

thumbsdown.gif on Screwdrivers, too acidic. My Vodka goes down with 7up/sprite or any flavor of gatorade. The latter being the best by a lot. Get you some Grape Gatorade and you can put a few drops in a glass of Vodka and not even taste it.

My hangover cure has been weed for about 25 years, if it aint broke...........

I find anything with Chilli really helps my hangovers (spicy food too) - another one I love - straight champagne with chilli poured into it.

My new one though is 'Firestarter':

cayenne pepper
freshly ground black pepper
Tabasco
Worcestershire sauce
soy sauce
Double shot single malt Scotch whisky
1 tbsp freshly squeezed orange juice
splash tomato juice, warmed through

Getting thirsty just thinking about it.... drinking.gif

Lately i been hitting that wine like theres no tommorow. I can polish off a whole bottle without even breaking stride. Gives me an almost narcotic buzz.

A good bottle of Pinot Noir and a steak is the recipe for a chill evening.

I hate wine, that and scotch are two things I wont drink.
Big Damage
Took me a long time to get used to wine. Time + a visit to the Hunter Valley in Northern NSW (Wine country.) I used to just see it a spoiled grape juice. Now I can drink it and even enjoy it.

Scotch, I struggle with a bit. I'm a bourbon drinker. Scotch has a very distinctive taste which can put me off at times. I definitely cannot drink Scoth with Cola, that makes me sick, but a good quality Scotch on the rocks, I can enjoy.

As for Screwdrivers. Theey are what I used to drink when I was younger and would want to get plastered quickly. The lack of fizz meant I could slam them down quickly.
Aficionado
I barely drink anymore. But screwdrivers are okay. Mixed drinks in general, were kinda nasty to me. A shot or two here and there and some good beer. Taking liquor and diluting it with other liquids ruins both for me.
DetroitMex

I am not a mixed drink person but palomas are ok. Tequila and Squirt. I hit martinis hard usually on New Year's.

I am more of a beer guy. Wine is OK. Coppolla Merlot is probably my favorite, not too pretentious or elitist but I like it.

Same here. It was my drink of choice when I was younger, since I can't stand beer for the most part.

This is pretty true, I'm real partial to the purple Gatorade Fierce myself...

Bring's me back to my original question tho...Does alcohol negate the effects of vitamin C in a screwdriver/salty dog/whatever, or the electrolytes you'd get from mixing it with gatorade?

Is a vodka/OJ considered a kid's drink now? If so, this is news to me.

I'm partial to the bloody mary in the morning myself, extra spicy, shit really picks me up...Only to put my ass down later, lol.

My last memory of a screwdriver was hitting up newport beach at midnight with some chick I just met with a bottle of OJ and a bottle of popov. Popov isn't so much vodka as it is rubbing alcohol...

I'm not a chemist or nutritionist, but I'd say the alcohol wouldn't directly negate the Vitamin C or electrolytes i.e. you would still receive them, however the alcohol would still harm your body in other ways as per usual (loss of brain cells and liver damage and whatever else it does.)

I'm guessing a 1/2 n 1/2 screwdriver does a lot more damage than good for your body.

OH MOTHERFUCKING SHIT

I just remembered its the holidays baby, saw me some eggnog in the grocery store.

Eggnog with heavy amounts of Southern Comfort is a beautiful, beautiful thing. I will literally gain 5 pounds from just this over the next two months.

I just cried for you.

If I do mix I do either Long Island Iced Teas or Jack Sours but I usually just stick to beer.

Bro, I'm sorry, but that's just disgusting to me. Eggnog = no bueno. SoCo = no bueno. Mixing the two = epic amount of no bueno-ness that would cause a vomitorium the likes of which Noah and his ark would've been proud of.

Co-sizzle, sir.

I'll occasionally sip on a nice scotch or Irish whiskey, but I'd prefer to stick to beer. I haven't been able to drink lately because of my diet, but I straight murdered some Stone IPA the other night.

Marvelous.

Your Cali-ness is an excuse unto itself.

I wouldnt expect anyone to understand but ggg OTDAMN i love me some eggnog and sweet whisky. Oddly enough i dont really care for the two on their own.

Believe me, I wish I could stand beer, being a cheaper alternative and all. But I can't. There have been one or two I can tolerate, but pretty much can't do it.

But yeah, Long Islands or simply rum and coke are what i go with now.

If you cant handle real southern holiday comfort its ok. I wouldnt expect anyone to like this concoction, its an acquired taste no doubt.

But it is good.

I guess i was supposed to post how i only drink Scotch or Beer or something equally manly. Too bad ive got three bottles of Scotch on my countertop right now, and a few beers in my fridge that have been there for months.

I get tired of drinking the same old shit all the time. I even kill some White Russians every now and then just to drink something different.

You're more man than me. I can't touch scotch, haven't had a sip of it in 26 years. Not since the incident.

White russians are teh good
escoria
Caucasians is the only mixed drink I regularly include in my rotation.

For the most part it is rum, straight, no rocks or anything. Rum and coke when it is really bad rum, so I can at least cover up the shitty flavor.

Mixing drinks ruins my precious alcohol.

BOURBON!!

I'll drink pretty much any beer that doesn't have "Lite" attached to it.

Scotch is a kick in the teeth. Nothing even remotely enjoyable about the first few drinks. And believe me, I've tried. It's the only booze I want no part of.
adb
Surprised at people not enjoying scotch. It's an awesome drink. I like a nice single malt but as a 'social' drink nothing beats a J&B with a splash of soda.
Big Damage
For boubon drinkers, Scotch is a bit hard to change to. It's an acquired taste.

I can drink both, but since I mostly drink bourbon, it takes a few drinks to get used to Scotch. And as I said before, I can't drink Scotch with cola. That flavour combination gets to me. While bourbon and cola is a favourite of mine.

Irish whiskey is also a good drink. Like Scotch, I only ever drink it on the rocks.

I feel the same about cognac. That shit is just disgusting.
loadedgloves
When I used to drink, I typically stuck with beer or straight liquor (scotch, bourbon, or vodka.. neat or with rocks).

After I stopped drinking, the only thing I missed about it from time to time was the taste of a good beer.

Red wine, gin & tonics or any good pilsner or IPA.

This is my airplane drink. I seldom drink it elsewhere. Though I do have a bottle of Van Gogh's chocolate vodka that's actually not too bad with orange juice.

Sound's kooky but I'd fuck with it.

Drinking Crown & Coke tonight...Crown is good just on ice though. Canadian's know whiskey.

I can dig a little bit of Crown, but I dunno that I'd go THAT far. Their most famous whiskeys (aside from Crown) are pretty crap.
