Will you be taking the shot? Have you taken it?

Voted no. Like Danger said in another thread, it's weird to take a vaccine for something that is constantly adapting. Unless you're elderly or have a really weak immune system it's best to just not chance it.

I never take flu shots. Don't believe in them. Truthfully, I think the healthy person is supposed to get the flu once every two or three years. It cleans out the system.
However this swine flu might be different, I wouldn't go out of my way for a shot, but I'd get it if it's convenient.

Nope, I take no flu shots and I'm not starting now. I never get really sick and if I do I probably just mistake it for a bad hangover.

Truthfully, you have about as much scientific knowledge as the anti-science folks on the right that you constantly belittle.

They're offering the regular-ass flu shot at work, so I'm getting it.
As for swine, I don't think the vaccine is available anywhere I know of. But I'd probably get it.

Pretty much just for kids, they are giving them out here in York. A bunch of people have died here.

i'd probably take it if i could get it easily. problem is that i'm in the middle of nowhere and they've handled the kiddies and grannies and it doesn't look like they'll be any more for a while. i'm not driving 7 hours for it.

Speaking as someone just recovering from swine flu (I'm also a 'never get ill' type and it swiped my bollocks completely) I wouldn't take it. Every medical person I know wouldn't.

CDC estimates 50% of the population will get H1N1 this upcoming flu season.

I won't.
I don't think a healthy person has much to fear from Swine Flu. It doesn't seem any more deadly than the flus that go around each year.
I have had the regular flu vaccine once before. I don't really know if it made any difference or not. I don't bother getting it any more.

i used to get the flu shot when they first came out. i always caught the flu anyway. might as well stick a safety pin in my shit. so i stopped getting the shots 5 years ago, and i stopped getting the flu. until i got the swine flu in mexico. which i know i won't get again so again fuck the shot.

Nope. Didn't get it. My kids got the flu this year and I got some flu like symptoms but we were all better within the same 7 day period. Nothing that we needed a shot for.
Frankly, I'm against pumping the population with a vaccine for something as new as the swine flu. I mean, maybe the CDC was aware of this particular flu well before it went public, but I'm not convinced that there have been sufficient tests on a new vaccine this quickly.
And if there has been, I'm not sure this new flu is really something thats any different than normal flu. What's the criteria for it to be diagnosed as swine flu? Vomiting? My daughter was throwing up and was fever free and back in school after only missing two days. Hell, she wanted to go back to school after being out for just one day but just for her sake and others, I kept her out an additional day.

nope. i'm not one of the guys that "never gets sick" i do get sick occasionally but nothing in the last 6 or 7 years has lasted more than a day. just today i woke up with flu-like symptoms, went to work to cover until 2nd shift came in, then went home and slept all afternoon, and i feel fine now. i'm in an area of wisconsin that's been hit kinda hard (a bit north of milwaukee) but i'm in my mid 20's and i dont have a weak immune system, no need to take a vacine for something that wouldn't kill me when kids and senior citezens are the ones that really need it.

The best part about it is if you get the shot and something terrible happens you don't have much legal recourse.

Wake me for H5N1. Also its kinda gross that we allow this to become fodder for conspiracy theories.

The only conspiracy is that a lot of people can get rich off of it. The government may not be looking to actively kill people or whatever the conspiracy that's floating around, but the government certainly doesn't care that there could be ill-effects or deaths as a result.
Damaja101
Nov 5 2009, 08:00 PM
Its probably best for kids and those around them to get the shot since a lot of kids have died from H1N1 already and few if any have been harmed by the vaccine. Most kids will be able to bounce back from it in a couple days but there's no reason to risk if the vaccine is available in your area.

I won't be getting it because I generally don't get vaccinated period, but I'm encouraging Ilian to get it only because she's pregnant and a number of pregnant women in San Diego have been sent to the ER because of H1N1.
Not that she's a super-expert, but my mom's been a nurse for about 40 years, so I trust her advice to get Ilian vaccinated against it in this case.

I'm mainly concerned about the effect it can have on healthy immune systems. Cytokine storms are no joke, and if you have a strong immune system you can have a worse reaction.
