Not quite official, but at least sounds like it's well on its way.
Kellerman will be in his glory over this one... though conflicted throughout the broadcast (if he gets the call).
Hopefully it's finalized soon. Definitely the fight to make at 154 since Dzinziruk is stuck sorting out legal matters w/ Universum

Bravo Sergio, nice to see someone wants to fight Paul. Clottey certainly doesn't want to see him.

This should be the beginning of Paul's cleaning out of the Junior Middleweight division. I vote for unification and then a string of title defenses.

Good. PWill needs to fight. He is at the peak of his career and it would be a big waste to spend time away from the ring for such a prolonged period. I want to see hims 4-5 times a year for the next couple of years, not like once or twice and one of them being an irrelevant fight like Winky. Hope his promoter wakes up and do a better job. Paul is 28 and soon will be over 30.

Hard to blame Goosen, dude isn't the easiest guy to get fights for and he has an HBO deal now. They only have so many dates.
I agree with the premise and I'm sure paul would love it. But those days are over. Three is about the best we can hope for.

Exactly. Dzinziruk was actually Goossen's main back-up plan (if not first option) since Paul is theoretically his mandatory. Universum threatened lawsuit and HBO immediately backed off from even entertaining such a fight.
This fight is fine. It's the potential co-feature that bugs me. I don't think Arreola should be given the spot if the best names they can come up with are Derric Rossy and Malik "80-72" Scott.

I would be satisfied with three meaningful fights per year.

Hearing that this show will NOT end up in SoCal because all the logical venues like the Citizens Bank Arena( where both co-headlined last year) and other AEG outlets are booked
This may end up back in AC or in Las Vegas, Im told

What about Galen Center? There's nothing booked for that night and it'll hold 10K.

Good match-up and should be competitive.
I think we'll see how much Paul Williams have improved in this fight. He's fighting a good southpaw, that could recall the memories of Quintana/Williams 1.

It's a way tougher fight than Pavlik. Martinez has a shot in there.

Good fight in the sense that Martinez is no pushover. Williams has balls to put his name on the line by fighting someone as dangerous as Martinez. I mean, Sergio is the kind of guy you would duck if you are not confident enough about yourself as a fighter.

Great fight. No easy task for PW. Martinez is tough and crafty. He'll be there to win.
Williams needs some good luck in 2010 because he fights not nearly enough for a guy who is in his prime. It is now or never. Get his ass on TV three times next year.

Solid fight. Paul should be favored, but Martinez is tough and can punch better than his KO % indicates. Plus he's kinda awkward...and Paul's coming off a bit of a layoff.
I'd go out of my way to see it live if it were within driving distance, which it should be IMO.

If Martinez fights the way Quintana fought Williams the first time he will win this fight.

If Martinez fights the way Quintana fought Williams the first time he will win this fight. Williams has been too inactive and Martinez will take advantage of that.
Layoff heading into the fight, martinez 10months, Williams 8 months. He certainly has a chance to win, but I'd lose that as a reason.

Everything I've read says he is locked up with promotional issues. Paul & goosen are more than willing to fight him. HBO, not so much.

Maybe he is in the middle of severing ties then....last thing I read sugested he was done and looking forward to moving to the US and getting with an American promotional company...
but admitedly that could be more in line with wishful thinking...
then again last I heard Kesslers old promoter was still trying to ruin his super six thing even after Kess won in court.
Promoters who pull this kind of shizz esspecialy when they are standing in the way of thier fighters success really piss me off, it shelves good fighters uneccessarily.
Watch...with good behavior Kirckland gets out and Dizz gets 'free' and the fight that was scheduled in Texas could still go down...
One question though if HBO was on board with Kirckland vs Dizz why not P Will vs Dizz...???

Martinez was already fighting dec 5th and has been on the network before, bringing over some no name euro who will probably get injured and pull out makes a lot less sense.

That, and IMO Williams is in that unfortunate position where he's
expected (by HBO) to be a draw and stand out, and when he doesn't because he hasn't really been exposed to the casual viewers, they're reluctant to give him less meaningful fights. That's what happens when you're fighting twice a year though, unless you're a big name to begin with.

It's a double edged sword, Paul fights twice a year because he can't draw shit and HBO loses money every time he enters the ring. Same thing with Chad, they signed the two best young fighters in the sport but nobody gives a fuck.

This isn't necessarily about P.Will, but all elite fighters. If HBO only has so many dates and you're worried about your guys cross over appeal, why not fight elsewhere occasionally? Or just ask to be a undercard and save the main events for bigger fights? Non-title fights to stay busy and remain in public consciousness? Six months to build a fight isn't true if a) its a good fight, b ) non-title fights against lower tier opposition.

I last Saw Martinez beating up decent british oppsition back in 2004. I remember being impressed. However he never seemed to capitalise after and drifted into obscurity. I imagine he is 3 or 4 years past his best now?
