any updates as to Al's condition?

Sorry i haven't been on here sooner. Ive been battling daily headaches that seem to come and go. Today has been the best day by far.... i believe the worst is over now.

I had 6 small titanium plates drilled in my forehead and sinus cavity - when i get my computer tomorrow, i will post the picture that the doctor took.... its pretty wicked.

Thanks to everyone for the support and checking on me. I haven't read your thoughts about the fight yet, but i did appreciate the article that this guy Jake put up.

I have no doubt that Fonseca intentionally used his head as a weapon.

He was a real ass at the weigh in too - trying to use intimidation, he didn't even want to shake my hand. Meanwhile he walked around the hotel like he was the baddest man on the planet.

The butt that caused the most damage happened at 2:28 of the second round. My sinus cavity was smashed inwards.... the doctors all told me how lucky i am to be alive. I hope it heals within the next 10 weeks and that i can resume boxing again. But as of now im not sure.

Im ok though - Im taking this time tend to focus more on my studies and family.

I wish you quick recovery Al. Fonseca really made plenty of enemy after that fight. There is a limit even in dirty boxing and he shouldn't be allowed to box if he continues to do the same. I hope you get perfectly healthy soon.

After reading about post concussion symptoms, especially in football players, a lot recently, I would have to say that you ought to really think carefully about continuing as a fighter, Al. Your longterm health and your ability to take care of your family is important--the surgery and daily headaches sound like you suffered some trauma to your brain.

However, I also understand that you are a fighter, and you worked your whole adult life to be a champion. And, you were beating Fonseca. So, if you think you still have a run in you, then I will root for you in any future fights.

I would just hope you get a decent ref in there.

Al is the man. so glad to see you doing better. we were all pulling for you during the fight and will always pull for you no matter what you decide to do from now on.
