It's back, after my 20second thrashing for $850 in MMA last week, not a minute too soon for Football.

Oregon +4 for $50
Penn State -27 for $100
Nebraska -22 for $100
Alabama -7 for $100
Miami +6 for $100

All I've heard lately is Central Michigan-Arizona, trendy picks haven't been good for me lately though.

There is a slight possibility Julio Jones and Mark Ingram could be out Saturday for Alabama. Mark Ingram, meh, we've got running backs but Julio Jones would be a big deal. But I don't think its that likely.

Ahh, its good to have college football back.

Ouch, I don't think Tech has much chance of moving the ball. Bama is going to be hard to run on anyway, with their best back out it will be next to impossible. Taylor will have to have improved greatly throwing the ball for them to score without a turnover or special teams plays.

Mark -

What's the deal with Ray Rice this year. Is he starting? Goal line back? Gonna explode or will he just be a gimmick receiving RB like reggie bush?

Either way, I think the Ravens look solid this year.

Ray will be starting, Willis is looking real strong too. I imagine they will split the carries with maybe a few extra going to Rice. Rice will also catch some passes. Goal line carries I would expect to go to McClain.

Rice should have at least 7 or 800 yds if you're asking a Fantasy kind of opinion. Probably a good choice for 3rd or 4th back. That way if he does explode, you have him.
Mike Quartey
Houston -4.5 strongest play on the board for me, week 1.

Welcome to the NFL Mark Sanchez.

not to get all fantasy in this thread, but Rice could possibly be a 3rd rounder in my upcoming draft.

anyone have any thoughts on the Cocks-NC State game tomorrow night? Wolfpack -5 (47)
PWillIsGod
Tough game, I flirted with taking the points, but Spurriers offense at South Carolina is always horrible. I always start the season slowly.

Rice is definitely starting and has talent. Just saying that Willis has looked good too and Rice is prone to fumbles. If he puts it on the turf a few times, wouldn't be surprised to see more of Willis in close games.
holeymoley99
1)Troy-7 B.Green . Looks like a complete mismatch on paper, the Falcons D will be hard pressed to stay up with 8 new starters. Home field will not factor. Start the weekend off right with this Tursday nighter.

2)Minn -6.5 Syracuse. Greg may be wishing he had never returned to the gridiron starting with this one. Weber will have a field day passing for the Gophers and they may be playing the second unit the entire second half.

3)Wisconsin -16.5 N.Illinois. Staying in the Big 10 the Badgers will maul the undersized NIU D line and since they go 3 deep at both QB and halfback even calling the dogs off isnt calling the dogs off in this one.

Love Ray Rice and always have,he is starting on my Fantasy squad and was the 39th RB taken which was highway robbery on my part. He will catch a ton of balls all season long.
PWillIsGod
I've never heard you talk about Ray Rice, now that he is starting for the team that's going to win the Super Bowl and all of a sudden?
Mike Quartey
I dont think the Ravens will win the Super Bowl. Not enough weapons on offense.
PWillIsGod
Flacco looks good enough to make his own weapons. The AFC is a stacked conference, anybody who wins it will need to stay healthy. But if the Ravens do, I'm loving my +2000 prop.
holeymoley99
Mark, you blasted me time and again for supporting Ray Rice last season (You hated his fumbling early which is understandable but like I told you then was NOT a trait he had in college at all) . If you dig back on these boards I was the one who predicted he would lead Rutgers to a 6-0 season several years back.

Maybe you are yanking my chain if not horrible horrible recollection on this one my man.

Looky what I found in our archives from 2006........

I called a Rutgers 6-0 start before the season started and they have done me proud so far. Can they keep it going tonight and get to 9-0 ? I dont honestly know as Louisville is a very good offensive team. Beating them in a shootout isnt the way to go but the Scarlet Knights D is a tough bunch so if they can hold them under 28 they could pull it off. Ray Rice who I've been hyping for the Hesiman needs another good outing and if he gets it and the W along with it then that leaves only himself and Troy Smith in the running (Sorry Ian Johnson, Steve Slaton,Garrett Wolfe and Brady Quinn but that is the way it is).

The winner of tonight puts themselves as the front runner in the BCS title game vs Ohio St/ Mich. winner as ESPN has been touting all day.

Should be a great one.

Are you really that insane that you can't spot an obvious joke?
holeymoley99
I got ya Mark, good one. I have been catching a lot of Rice flack elsewhere on boards though and really am happy he is about to break out. I thought you may have been yanking my chain though as I mentioned, but I noticed a lot of newer posters giving you grief for no reason and thought it was possible it could have slipped your mind while dealing with them.

I'm thinking about laying some serious coin on the Ravens winning the North because it is a true 2 team race and the odds are appealing. The WR spot worries me some still but Heap is looking like the Heap of old.

Is there any more of a lock then the Chargers in the WEST ? Risk reward isnt great but can the other 3 beat anyone else not in the division especially if the Broncs have to start Bradenstater for any extended time ?
PWillIsGod
I love the odds for the AFC and Super Bowl much more than the North. Not sure how much you've seen, but Flacco looks like Manning. Obviously it is the pre season, but we look really nasty.

Locked and Loaded:

Miami +6.5

and next week

USC -4.5
Muttley85
Lions +13
Pats -10.5
Steelers -5.5

EDIT: Redskins +6.5 and USC -4.5

Falco will never get over the beating he took from America's Team in the playoffs last year.

His super bowl ring will wipe all that away. Bennybear loves the cock.

Mark who do you like tonight? Miami @ FSU? You think FSU covers?
pumpkinlee
I got killed this weekend lost every game on Saturday. Oh what a feeling. I have not seen a line yet on USC/OSU but I am pretty sure that USC is going to lay a beatdown on the buckeyes so I am going to go with USC and the points, as long as its not over +10 or so. The USC D is going to own the Buckeye offense.

I got -7 so far on USC. I like that line and expect it will go up by Sat.

I have $100 on the canes.
holeymoley99
Army -2.5 Duke - I got hammered on opening weekend (Thank you Bearcats for throwing me a life preserver) but how can you not jump all over this opening line ? Army was all over E.Michigan (27-14) never trailing and rushing 49 times for 300 yards. Duke on the other hand lost to Richmond (24-16). Duke missed both FG attempts so even if the game stays tight they are in trouble. The Blue Devils will lose this road contest.

Hawaii -2 Washington St. The Cougars were awful last season and didnt get off to a good start last week losing to Stanford 39-13. They simply can not stop the run. Hawaii didnt look like world beaters theirselves beating C.Arkansas 25-20 but they did put up 415 yards of offense behind dual threat Greg Alexander who should be the big difference maker in this one. WSU may win more then the 2 games they won last season but it wont start here.

NC -4 UCONN. The TarHeels easily beat up The Citadel last week 40-6 allowing just 2 4th Quarter FG's while collecting 3 ints. The outgained the Bulldogs 375-153 and the NC rushing attack was on all cylinders. UCONN upset Ohio 23-16 despite throwing 3 ints. because their running game was so solid. Look for the holes not to be there this week and while we may not see the blowout of last year (NC by 26) a 4 spot should be an easy enough cover.

Mike Quartey
Can Miami please RUN THE FUCKING BALL

3-2 /+135

Virginia Tech -19 for $50
Nebraska -23.5 for $100
Michigan +3.5 for $50
South Carolina +7 for $50
Ohio St +7 for $50

Steelers -6 for $100
Ravens -9.5 for $500- line is already up to 13
Cleveland +4 for $50
Bears +3.5 for $50
I forgot the 49ers +6.5 for $50
Mike Quartey
What may I ask do you see in Clev +4?
PWillIsGod
Home team on opening week getting points from an overrated squad and a useless QB. I think Minnesota & Tennessee are the two teams to bet against early, before it becomes obvious they are middle of the pack teams and the spreads change.
Mike Quartey
Ok here;s my rebuttal:

Pitt -6 is a bad spread. Tennessee is better in the trenches, won't turn the ball over, and will have the best player on the field: Chris Johnson.

Pittsburgh is getting too much credit for peaking at the right time last year. They wont protect Ben well early in the year like always and he'll hold the ball too long.

This is a FG type game either way and the +6 is value in the long run for this type of matchup.
PWillIsGod
That whole towel incident will keep them from being complacent. I expect it to be more along the lines of 31-7. You can't be sure of anything early in the season. Except that the Ravens are going to brutalize KC.

Edit: Haynesworth is gone, with that goes any edge Tennessee may have had in the trenches.
Mike Quartey
Ok we'll see. I dont underestimate Jeff Fisher teams.

That being said the crowd and the intangibles point to Pitt.

I wont be betting it big but I will take the +6.
PWillIsGod
Good luck
holeymoley99
Texans -4.5 Jets - Sanchez steps into a hornets nest in week 1. Houston will jump out early with Andre then control the game with their rushing attack. Mark doesnt have taregets to respond and it could get ugly.

Cowboys-5.5 Bucs- Byron Leftwich was awful all preseason and it wont change in this one. Roy Williams and Jason Witten will eat up Tampa's D.

Falcons -4 Dolphins- Plan to see a lot of Michael Turner and enough of Roddy White to make the difference.Teams wont be looking by the Phins this year so reaching 9 wins will be quite a chore.
Dynamic Hispanic
TB +6 2x
TB/DAL U39 6x

COLLEGE FOOTBALL WEEK 2 TEXTBOOKS & CELL PHONE BILL PICKS:

I feel pretty good about these. Spent a few hours going over games today. However, NOTHING is a gimme in this pursuit, gotta stay sharp:

Clemson +5.5
North Texas +3, North Texas +130 ML
Iowa St +7 (-125), Iowa St. +220 ML
UNLV +7, UNLV +250 ML
Ga/S. Car UNDER 38
UNC -4
East Carolina +7 (-125), East Carolina +220 ML
Auburn -14
Wash St. +110 ML
USC -7

Quite a few dogs in there. Woof woof grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr let's go!!!!!!!
PWillIsGod
I'd worry about North texas & iowa St. I'm not sure who North Texas is playing, but they lost like 15 of their last 16 games before pulling an upset last week, that could be cause for a letdown.

Iowa barely squeaked by last week, I think they are overrated as well. But highly thought of teams that narrowly avert disaster, tend to amp it up the following week.

In reading about North Texas after their upset of Ball St as a 17 pt dog---this is a program that has gone 1-10 the past two years but their coach is in his 3rd year and the players he has recruited are now playing. The QB is his son. This is their home opener and the chance to make a statement for their fans. They have a good Sr RB named Cam Montgomery--he had 150 yards last week. Ohio is weak against the run. They should have a loud home crowd. I dont see a letdown.

Iowa St usually plays Iowa tough. This is a home crowd play as well as a underdog rivalry play--much like Miami vs FSU. Just like getting the pts here when ISU players will no doubt be flying to the ball.
PWillIsGod
I wouldn't bet against you, just don't like either game. Look like trap games to me. I hope you roll, except for the USC play, that must lose.
Mike Quartey
Also looking at Air Force +3.5 at Minny.

Fresno St is off the board because at least 10 wisconsin players have the cheese flu...maybe worth half a bet on Fresno........

Michigan getting pts in the Big house is tempting....I wish I could get it at +4.5 where it was earlier this week though....

Vandy is not a bad team getting +15 but LSU at home is tough.....

Two favorites that I am leaning to are:

Kansas -13......that fat guy is one heckuva coach. Their little QB Reesing is really good too.

Auburn -14........They are under the radar. They have opened up their offense. I just hate giving 14 in an SEC game but I may bite....

I dont know if the north texas win was not more due to how ball state has fallen off since last year. They lost their QB who may well be starting for the niners before the year is out, lost the head coach and best wr from last year.

Is Chris Johnson still the best player on the field?
