I guess at 135.

Marquez by late stoppage, he would get rocked along the way. But he wouldn't be able to miss Chico with anything.

chico brings out the best in jmm. chico always has the power to change the fight but i just never seen jmm get dropped and not get back on his feet. jmm by clear decision

When has Marquez come close to fighting a 5'10" puncher? Not saying he couldn't hold handle it, but is there any precedent?

Chico's power was the best of his weight class, but it was not as if no one could recuperate after getting hit. JLC got hit so much but he lasted 10 rounds. JMM is not as big as JLC, but I don't think he will be KOd by a few punches from Chico, unless some clean, flush combinations land. I think JMM can handle the pressure from Corrales and win a clear decision in the end. It will be too hard to knock him out. JMM has some power but I doubt it's enough to KO Corrales.

It's a fair question to raise. Never, is the answer, & I believe it, at least in part, nets Corrales three or four wins in a ten-fight series with the overall better man in Marquez.

Diaz had him rocked, & Casamayor found him quite a bit. Corrales was more predictable than Casamayor, but he hit a lot harder than either he or Diaz, & knew how to make his size work for him (albeit, not in the conventional manner of utilising his height to proper affect).

I think Marquez is too clever, too quick & --- should it come to it --- probably just a bit too durable to lose most times out against Corrales, but he's become more hittable as a Lightweight (in spite of ageing quite well), so anything could happen, as far as I'm concerned.

The most interesting part to this would be seeing how well Corrales could follow up, should he severely hurt Marquez. I'd like to see how that played out.

Good matchup. I would lean towards Marquez given his superior boxing IQ and because Corrales rarely used his height and reach advantage he had, giving the other guy the chance to get to him fairly easy.

wow...this one would be a war as long as it lasts with corrales stalking and marquez boxing more...marquez would put corrales down a couple of times and corrales would hurt him more than once....id say marquez tko10

this would be some fight.

I don't see Marquez stopping Corrales, it would be a great war. Marquez would have to be sharp he isn't as durable as Castillo, so I wouldn't expect him to go the distance if he ate the flush left hooks that kept jolting Castillo.

No reason to expect him to endure mouthpiece gate. If Corrales was going to cheat like a bitch again, it should be in the original post.

Chico. This is a bad matchup for Marquez. He'd get caught with a left hook and Chico's hook was heavy as hell. At 135 Marquez doesn't have the legs he did at 126 or 130. He wouldn't be able to stick and move on Corrales for 12 rounds. He'd get in his shots, but he'd eat his fair share of heavy stuff from Corrales. I don't think he could survive that. I'd take Corrales by mid to late round knockout.

Id take Marquez stoppage by accumulation. Too many clean counterpunches. Too sharp over the distance.

Would be a good war while it lasted by JMM just is better technically in everyway, he would outlast Chico and stop him late.

nonood5.gif Round 10 wasn't the first round Corrales hurt Castillo. He'd been hurting him pretty early in the fight - with his left hook especially.

Somehow I doubt Marquez would take those shots as well as Castillo did, and he'd be in Corrales reach all night. More than likely Marquez would bust up Corrales, but I don't see him stopping Chico. If anyone is getting stopped it would be Marquez.

In saying all that Marquez would be my favorite via UD. But I don't fancy his chances in a full on war with Chico, I don't think he's as tough in the chin as Castillo.

I'm not sure I'd go that far. I think relatively speaking his chin is probably as good as Castillo's, although maybe a little less so. But JMM is a true 126 lbr (he's moved up successfully, but I have little doubt that he'd still be fighting at 126 today if Pacman were still there). Castillo was a huge lightweight. Because of this difference I think Castillo probably would have taken Corrales' punches better than JMM.

I also think Castillo's chin (while world class) gets a little overrated here because of the war with Chico. Really, Chico was the only true puncher Castillo fought at lightweight. And Chico did hurt him several times in their fight before the knockout. Castillo had a hell of a chin, but his chin wasn't as indestructible as some folks believe.
