Full Version: Is HBO & Shotime a wash for this summer for boxing???

VICTOR ORTIZ, ROCKY JUAREZ, JUAN DIAZ vs PAUL MALIGNAGGI may be 'aight' fights but will not do it for me to continue with HBO as much as ABRAHAM VS. ORAL, AGBEKO VS. DARCHINYAN with Showtime. Actually I cut off Shotime before WARD VS. MIRANDA last month. My decision has been solidified since the postponement of PBF vs JMM. Heck; 2 months without HBO/SHO is like $150+ bucks I can use for PPV's later this year. I'm still employed but just figure the money could be spent elsewhere.

...better wait till fall I guess!

Are there any other fights that hasn't been posted yet on HBO/SHO?

I can't believe that HBO is basically going dark for the next two months following next weekend. I understand that Mayweather-Marquez falling through was unexpected, but damn - how strapped are they that they can't (won't?) foot the bill for Klitschko-Chagaev, or air a single fucking fight in July?

They could've easily come up with the cash to air Adamek-Godfrey (when that was the plan), and use it to market a potential Adamek-Hopkins fight in early 2010. No, Adamek-Godfrey isn't a STOP THE PRESSES type of fight, but at least gives boxing fans SOMETHING between late June and late August.

Showtime has been disappointing as a whole in 2009, thus far, but their second half of the year at least looks promising. Agbeko-Crabcake is a nice comeback (and I will be in the house for that one!) and I'm at least intrigued by Bradley-Campbell.

I'm also generally a Shobox junkie, so they're at least keeping me entertained during the dog days of summer. A lot more than I can say for HBO.

I wonder if they would have picked up the Klit fight if May-JMM got postponed sooner

Gamboa is good but wasn't he just on the FnF circuit not too long ago? isn't it a bit premature for a PPV attraction?

Those are not HBO PPVs. Those are Top Rank, the first two are Latin Fury 9 and 10.

Gamboa's fighting Whyber Garcia, not Santiago 692im5.gif

I copied and paste that so I didn't make it up, but if it's not HBO then it just makes me feel that much better to lose HBO/SHO for some time. smile.gif

No, you just order it on PPV, not sure what your cable company or Satt provider is????

Nope. they have nothing to do with each other.

Like E once told me, Arum is really good at this stuff. He doesn't go buy what HBO does. He keeps his fighters busy, makes some good cards, stacks them and puts them on PPV. They aren't very expensive and everyone on his stable is happy.

I've enjoyed all the Latin Fury cards for the most part. I'm looking forward to the next 2 tho Latin Fury 9 has some duds. JCC jr may catch shit for not stepping up but he makes for some exciting fights; mostly because he lowers himself to the skill of his opponent but fun to watch none the less. It's a guilty pleasure kinda thing.

Arum ain't dumb. He'll have ya'll paying $25 bucks for 1 non HBO PPV but have 3 of those in a row within 2 months; so you are shelling out $75-$100.

I don't mind really. Most of the time someone gets it and we all gather up and make a gathering of it.

Plus with this summer being bone dry in terms of fights, i'm sure most people will succumb to buying at least one LOL

Nope, not anymore...I love boxing but if this is how it is going to be then I will just tide myself over with MMA. I went from calling UFC "man loving" to learning more about the strategy in it and now I am into enough that I don't mind not paying for a few mediocre PPVs if there is some type of fighting on television at no extra cost. I made the mistake of buying PPVs like a Holyfield one just because I was desperate to watch something...never again...
luisio
i dont mind payin for MMA stuff like wanderlei silva vs quinton jackson....but i dont buy mma stuff regularly...i mean they have shit ppvs..not all of them are big events or whatever....at its best nothing beats boxing...
