Thats good ole fashioned Steeler football.

San Diego`s defense is worn down from being on the field the whole second half.

TheChiefSecond
16 yard run by Pittsburgh's Willie Parker to extend their lead to 35-17 with 4:11 remaining in the 4th quarter and that's the ball game. With that said, congratulations to the Pittsburgh Steelers on advancing to the AFC championship game! 696an3.gif

The Ravens will go into this game as the underdog and with a chip on their shoulders. This is playoff football and time for the veterans to take over, Ray Lewis is going to bury Bennybear and Lorenzo Neal will lay either one of the two OLBs out before the game is over.

Ben will probably pancake Ray on a reverse and they`ll call unecessary roughness. Just put a skirt on him.

Ward > everyone else. Accept maybe Steve Smith
BigBENisGod
I gotta admit after that first series I was worried. Its looked like Rivers was going to have a field day.

The key was the running game. They were able to keep SD off balance. Ben wasnt a sitting duck back there like he usually is. The run game slowed down the pass rush.

Tomlin did his best to lose it but the players wouldnt let it happen. He is a good hard nosed football coach with some bad judgement. I know he doest call every play but he has to overide in key situations.

Sources: Broncos to hire McDaniels

The Denver Broncos have reached agreement to name New England offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels their new head coach, team sources told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen on Sunday.

McDaniels, 32, replaces Mike Shanahan, who was fired Dec. 30 after 14 years on the job. The team is expected to announce the deal on Monday.

Broncos owner Pat Bowlen sent COO Joe Ellis to Boston Thursday for a lengthy second interview with McDaniels, who, according to sources, was one of two finalists along with Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier.

McDaniels becomes the third member of Belichick's coaching staff to be named an NFL head coach in recent years, following Romeo Crennel, who took over Cleveland in 2005 and was fired after this past season, and Eric Mangini, who went to the Jets in 2006. Mangini was also fired after this season and has since been named to replace Crennel in Cleveland.

McDaniels has worked in the NFL for eight seasons, all with New England. He joined the Patriots on March 1, 2001 as a personnel assistant in the scouting department and assisted the defensive coaching staff for three seasons. He began serving as the Patriots' quarterbacks coach in 2004 and was named offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach on Jan. 20, 2006.

McDaniels began his coaching career in 1999 as a graduate assistant at Michigan State, working under head coach Nick Saban.

I was at work, but I got to watch the first half-quarter or so and the last quarter, on account of a german shepherd that loves the hell outta me but tries to bite the shit out of everyone else. So I had to be away from the tv's and tending to that dog for about 2 hours.

It was probably a good thing too, because it sounded like it was absolutely horrible. I'm not mad or upset though, because I said before, we were playing on borrowed time. On top of that, we've just had some really key players injured much of the season, so most people are surprised we got to the playoffs at all.

Forgot to add, from what I heard today, Norv's coaching position is extremely secure, and Tomlinson might be making an announcement in the coming weeks.

Yeah I actually like Ray Lewis.

Its gonna be a good battle.

Pitt finallay played the way I have been looking for all season. They got the running game going and their attack was balanced. I dont expect Parker to get 100 yards on the Ravens but if he can get 50 or 60 that would be enough to set up the pass.

Ward is definitely more man than any other receiver on the field. And is 10X the man that Ed Reed is. I bet he's still having nightmares about getting laid out by Ward going into this weekend's championship game.

The dream of the all PA superbowl is close to being a reality.

The Chargers were playing good football going into this weekend. Pittsburgh dominated their asses with defense and running.

Baltimore will be much tougher to run on. But then again, Baltimore's offense has struggled against Pittsburgh's defense. And last time the teams played, Ben passed all over Baltimore's D. Baltimore also has some injury issues and even though they're expecting guys like Suggs to play, they may not be as effective and/or may not be able to play the whole game. Pittsburgh is fully healthy for this game. It'll be close and probably low scoring, but I think Pittsburgh's offense will do better against the Ravens' defense. Tenessee should have beaten Baltimore convincingly, but they made several stupid mistakes against the Ravens when they were in scoring range. I wouldn't count on Pittsburgh making the same mistakes. And Pittsburgh matches up much better against the Ravens than would the Chargers. Sproles is too small to really get things going on the ground against the Ravens' defense.
flipside
i think the ravens' secondary is suspect and with parker being healthy and effective, the steelers can sell the play action better and ben can look downfield (santana holmes anybody?) for some chances.

sproles was held to 11 for 15 yards. that cant be a good sign for any ravens backs. i just dont see joe flacco exploiting any weaknesses in this d. this shit might not even be close. now, if ben gets too cute and starts reading the paper while having coffee back there, then the ravens frontline will make it uncomfortable for him and force him into some mistakes.

oh yeah, fock rivers. that pos! that was an int btw, for good measure.

It will be a tough game. Ben does not have good games against the Ravens except for last year when our entire secondary was injured. It will come down to turnovers just like the Titans game. We are banged up and tired so i am not nearly as positive of victory as I was last week. But you should never sell our team short.

The Steelers won both games and came through with big plays. But we controlled both games until late. In the 3rd quarter of both games the Steelers looked helpless. Hard to win 3 times against a team that has the ability to control you for long stretches.

LOL at the Ravens controlling the second game until late. Were it not for good punt returns and shitty punts from the Steelers you would have had only one scoring drive in the first half. Your boys had a grand total of 1 first down in the first quarter and Flacco was intercepted once, whereas the Steelers had 3 first down conversions. Your offense had the ball for about 6 minutes of the first quarter. We had it the rest of the quarter. In the second quarter you had one good, sustained drive. Pittsburg did to. Time of possession was equal in that quarter. Neither offense did anything in the third quarter and they both ended up with only 1 first down conversion. In the fourth quarter though, Ben passed all over your boys. Ben ended the day with about 250 passing yards. Flacco had about 100. Neither team ran very effectively, but Baltimore ended up with about 90 yards on the ground and the Steelers only got 50. Still, at the end of the day we had about 100 yards more offense than your team did. You may have an argument about controlling the first game. But you weren't controlling a thing in the second game. You had some good kick returns on special teams and a fumble recovery. Your offense had only one meaningful drive that resulted in points in the entire game. The Steelers put together 3 scoring drives.

I don't expect a healthy Willie Parker to have much of an influence on the game rushing. He's never been very effective against the Ravens. He's too small. But I'm not sure it will matter, the Ravens didn't do much on the ground against the Steelers last time and that shouldn't change this time around. In the end I think Ben will handle the Baltimore D better than Flacco does the Steeler D.
TrueWest
I hate to count out the Ravens but honestly, the Ravens offense has been mediocre at best during this post season and Flacco IMO has got some tremendous kudos for having his defense do most of the work. He made a couple big plays against Tenessee but the defense and turnovers are what really won the game. They also had trouble moving the ball against Miami and defensive causing turnovers won it.

Maybe Flacco won't have to do much again and just make a couple big plays or some plays where they matter the most but Fag Roth looked pretty good. I hope he gets crushed but its a pretty tough game and I think offensively the team that can figure out the others defense with more success will eventually win.
glockw0rk
Ravens won't be able to score on Pitt, Pitt won't be able to score on Ravens.

The game will be decided by a defensive score, and on that front I rate the Ravens higher.

The play calling was insanely conservative on Sunday. That isn't Flacco's fault. He made the plays when he needed to. We have had Pittsburgh beaten throughout both games until they came on late. Not far fetched that they come up short this time.

The Ravens are going into this one more dinged up than the Steelers. And the last time they played the only team that was able to put together meaningful offensive drives was the Steelers. Were it not for two bad kicks and two good kick returns, Baltimore would have ended the day with one field goal. And while I'm not sure Parker will add much effectiveness to the ground game against the Ravens, if the Steelers use him as a receiver on a couple of plays he can be very effective because out in the open field he's too quick for Baltimore's linebackers to cover him.

Final prediction

Cards 34 Eagles 24

Pittsburgh 20 - Ravens 6

This is going to be an incredible weekend no matter what happens and at least no matter who wins there will be 2 cool teams in the Superbowl and no one I can hate for once.
BaldBull
I don't know if I've ever whiffed on a pick more than Carolina/Arizona.

The SD/Pitt game played out pretty much how I thought it would.

Pittsburgh/Baltimore is gonna be a helluva good defensive football game for a couple of quarters. I like Flacco, and he's going to be awesome when he gets a couple of years under his belt. That being said, I think he throws a pick six, or gives up a couple of costly turnovers which are the difference in the game.

Steelers 23

Baltimore 10

Arizona surprised me more than any playoff team I can remember. They haven't run the ball all year, and all of sudden Edge is running like it's 2003, and they've suddenly found a defense.

I still think they're more hot than good, but Warner still throws a great deep ball, and if he gets time, he'll murder any team.

I think Philly is gonna play ball-control behind Westbrook, and try to get the ball deep to Jackson. Eventually, they bust this one open.

Philly 33

Cardinals 21

Leee
What worked well in the Carolina game also was Hightower had 75 yards rushing after the defense was tired and Edge wore them down as a change of pace. Delhomme worked well for us as well, and I don't imagine McNabb will do that and it will be a much tougher game. Same formula as before, defense has to make big play and get us the early lead again.
PWillIsGod
I think I am taking the Cards. Too many people are looking at it like an easy win for the eagles. But for the first time in as long as I can remember at this time of year. I don't have real strong feelings on either game.

For some reason, teh same is true for me. It is extremely difficult to beat a strong team 3x, but I wonder how the Ravens will respond in teh 2nd half. Pittsburgh without question will be the fresher team after only playing 1 half of football. This will be teh 2nd straight week teh Ravens take on a top 5 physical team.(arguably top 3).

The Cardinals/Eagles game imo is filled with too many questions to even attempt to figure out. Both are playing as well as they possibly can.

Salvy_Mic
I would love to see the Cardinals win the whole thing. Now that they benched that fag Leinart, I can safely cheer for the appropriate underdog. Then again, if Leinart had been the starter all year, I can safely say they wouldn't have made it to the divisionals, let alone the NFC Championship Game. Warner's the real season MVP.

Cardinals 35-31

As for the AFC title game, I'm rather indifferent to both teams, so it doesn't matter which one of them win. I live around more annoying Steeler fans though, so I'm going with the Ravens.

Ravens 17-16

It might be the most evenly matched set of final four teams I can remember for a long while, but considering the Cardinals have been jinxed and cursed every year it seems since they moved to St. Louis from Chicago, I'll go with them.
