I wouldn't use JuanMa or Finito's fights you listed. They weren't great fights, just blowouts. Finito-Nene is one of the finest performances I've seen, but I'd hardly say Sanchez was one of the great Puerto Ricans.

I think you have to have a combination of the best and biggest fights and IMO they are: -

Gomez/Pintor
Sanchez/Gomez
Gomez/Zarate
Rosario/Ramirez I, II
Benitez/Palamino
Chavez/Rosario
Margarito/Cotto
Trinidad/Vargas

All of those fights were top fighters at the top of their games facing each other and those fights delivered for the most part.

Yes he was. In my defense, they were great fights.

Sounds like a fun DVD package. It looks like with the above suggestions, you're pretty much covered.
But if you were to add a couple of really good Puerto Ricans vs. Mexican-Americans bouts, you should put in the John John Molina-Lopez fights and Wilfredo Vazquez vs. Canizales bout, just for kicks.

Trinidad/Vargas will be my favorite fight between Puerto Rico and Mexico fighters.

Both fighters in there prime
Both fighters had so much pride leading up to the staredown
Both displayed heart and skill

I can go on and on, Margarito/Cotto down the line is going to be on ESPN Classic for sure, that fight was awesome

Nothing compares to Sanchez/Gomez, not even close in terms of the rivalry. I believe it is still the most viewed fight in Latin America. That fight had everything, the lead up into that fight was absurd. It may not have been the best fight but in terms hype, emotion, animosity, etc... that was THE fight.

I remember I couldn't get the result in Baltimore for days. I was tripping over it. Nothing in the papers or on TV. I don't even remember how I finally got it. But i was crushed.

That rivalry was fierce. even the bands squared off in the middle of the ring. It was great. Gomez was almost out early and managed to hold it together. Sanchez was a beast.

As far as all the classics that I have in my fight collection, I'd probably say Sanchez vs Gomez is in my top 3 most viewed fights. I know I've watched that fight 50 times or more through the years.

Sanchez looked like Screech possessed.

Sanchez was the fuckin man..

Sanchez was top five p4p fighter of all time. He was so intelligent in his attacks and so determined to win. He was an amazing finisher. He had it all.

The animosity started when Zarate went over there got his jewelry stolen, hit after he was down, and KTFO'd. After the fight Gomez said that no Mexican would beat him. Not sure if it was taken out of context by the Mexican press but it pissed a lot of people off. BTW, supposedly Zarate was sick as a dog going into that fight. Not sure if it would have made a difference, though, Gomez was a beast.

Oscar has dual citizenship in the U.S. and Mexico. I doubt Vargas has even been to Mexico other than trips to TJ whorehouses.

May I suggest something from the days of waybach:

Sixto Escobar vs. Rodolfo "Chango" Casanova.
PWillIsGod
Cuevas/Espada
Kijis Konar
Gomez-Pintor.

One of those fights that define the word "warrior"- those two men left a piece of themselves in that fight.

Great fight, but Vargas is not a fighter from Mexico. Not even an opinion, simply stating a fact. Trinidad was great but he was never involved in a true Puerto Rico/Mexico grudge match. Campas was never good enough to count either.

Sanchez was the fuckin man..

He packed alot of greatness into 22 years.

I dont know of many others that did half of what he did that early. He may have gotten better by the time he reached 25 or 26.
