Forrest was on a radio station in LA California called AM 570 the loose cannons with Mychal Thompson formerly of the LA Lakers, Steve Hartman and Vic the brick jacobs. They interviewed both him and Sergio.
Vernon said last fight he was not properly trained and was basically done by the 4th round. This time he says he will be in great shape and ready.
If Sergio still manages to beat Vernon even though Forrest is in great shape would you consider Mora a legit 154 pount champion or just a guy who took advantage of a fighter past his prime. It was just last year that Forrest was starting to look similair to his 2003 form.

Mora is one of the players in one of the worst divisions in Boxing. He proved he belonged in the first fight. I never have thought that sergio was garbage. You could always tell that he had some skills and plenty of balls.

i think mora was the one that made the necessary adjustments in the first fight. it may not be thrilling, but he knows what hes doing in there and hes a tough out for anyone at 154

Mora beats Viper again
and the fight is boring again. Forrest doesnt have enough gas left to press Mora and make it exciting

Between Phillips, Mora, Santos, Kirkland, Angulo, Martinez, Dzinziruk, Latimore, 154 has some good matchups to be made in my estimation. No, it's not one of the stronger divisions in boxing, but I don't think it's a wasteland either, and I like its future.

I feel that Vernon Forrest is done. He should retire, but that is unlikely to happen because everyone knows that he needs money. However, his skills are nowhere near where they used to be.

Might be too soon. Mora is slick. Vernon is obviously a shell of himself. There is no way he should have been a 6 or 7 to 1 favorite in the first fight, and I'm surprised this one is even $$. Serge UD, and he's a legit top guy at 154.
EDIT: Just read Mora came in 2lbs over, and is trying to lose the weight.... Hmm. I'm a little worried about his conditioning, but if there's anyone that you can afford to work a little less gainst, its this version of Forrest. Hopefully the fight is not scratched.

Sergiy Dzinziruk is the man to beat at 154, much like Joe Clazaghe he isn't getting the respect he deserves stateside, but he refuses to leave the comofrt of Europe.
He put Santos on the seat of his pants, handled him far better then Marg. Unfortunatly thats the only name on his resume an America would recognize.
He doesn't have blistering KO power but niether does anyone else at 154.
154 is a wierd weight right now, all the money players are at 147 or at 160.
It used to be thick, Sugar Shane was out of place there I know but at one point you had
Prime Winky, Young Vargas, Tito, DLH and Shane, along with Forrest and Mayo.

It's tough to say with Mora, IMO. Remember, he was fighting at middleweight for a bit and didn't exactly look undersized there. I wouldn't say it's all that similar to Guzman actually moving UP a division and coming in 3 lbs. over, but yeah...it's certainly possible that it will negatively affect him.
Personally I see Mora winning again, similar to the first fight. Forrest isn't a young guy, and once Mora realizes he can push him around a little bit, be physical and beat him to the punch, Vernon won't react all that well.

if he beats forrest again he should get his props as a champ at 154...i gave him props for winning the first time but to do it twice should make any doubters give the man his respect...i am by no means a fan of mora but i do see him winning the second time because of his youth and skill set along with his determination and confidence...i dont see forrest being able to perform any better at this stage of his career...he will make it difficult and boring but i dont see him doing enuf to get the W.

You are making an unfair assumption that Mora doesn't deserve credit for the first win because of an excuse that Forrest is making.
That is totally unfair.
They fought. Mora won. He deserved to win. Period.
If you are going to downgrade every fighter who won because of an excuse that the loser made, you are going to give practically nobody credit for a victory.

IMO Mora would have to beat another top tier 154'er to be recognized as champ.
Forrest had nothing, absolutely nothing, for him over the last 6 rounds of their first fight.
I am still amazed that Forrest was the betting favorite approaching this rematch.
I am a little bothered that Mora had to cut 2 lbs, but I am sticking with him.
MORA wins the rematch. Goodnight and thanks for the memories, Vernon.

I believe the one thing that is being very overlooked in this matchup, besides the fact that Vernon is older and has seen his better days in the ring, is the fact that Mora is the more physically gifted of the two fighters.
The size differential here is substantial. He has a much wider frame. To my knowledge, Sergio Mora has been a Middleweight for most of his career. While on the other hand, Vernon Forrest has been a Welterweight for most of his career.
Therefore, Mora is the naturally larger and stronger man. I may be wrong, but given the fact that Mora's superior youth and athletic ability would also come into play here, I just don't see how Forrest will have enough size and power to seriously hurt Mora or earn his respect.
PWillIsGod
Sep 13 2008, 08:01 AM
That's partially true. I wouldn't call Mora the more gifted fighter. It's hard to say how strong he will be. He looked like a ghost at the weigh in. 2 lbs in a short period of time is a ton of weight.

That was ugly. I'll give Mora a minuscule amount of credit for trying to do SOMEthing in the last couple rounds, but that was bad. I'm kinda in the middle - yeah, Mora looked like shit, but yeah, Forrest looked good too. But I think Forrest should probably get the majority of the credit, because it's not like Mora didn't try. He looked ok early on, but Vernon just shut him down, controlled the fight and straight rocked him a handful of times.
Actually a decent fight too, IMO. Not great, but watchable...which surprised me.

Ike I mean no disrespect here, so I hope that you don't take this the wrong way; But what make you so confident that the Vernon Forrest of old would have stopped a middleweight in Sergio Mora in under 5, when the very same Vernon Forrest couldn't stop a lightweight in Sugar Shane Mosley in under 5 or a welterweight in Ricardo Mayorga in under 5? He had trouble closing the deal in those fights as well. Afterall, these men were much smaller than Sergio Mora and he still couldn't close deal against either of them.
