Full Version: Cleaning Out the Storage Bin

I just returned home from cleaning out Mom's storage bin, throwing away a 80% of my lifetime's worth of crap, and (re)discovering some of the cherished items of my Reagan-era youth. Nostalgia is not a pretty thing, folks . . . especially in a 100-degree, no ventilation sauna of a storage space . . .

Anyhow, I came across a nearly forgotten piece of boxing history passed down through my family from folks who apparently viewed a bit of history: an original program from the 1927 "long count" fight between Dempsey and Tunney in Chicago.

The thing is grey in color--about the size, shape, and thickness of a comic book--and has photos of the fighters inside.

I have to imagine that there's a market for these kinds of thing, no? Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to figure out its value as a collectible?

Quick disclaimer for the mods: I'm not trying to piss anyone off/violate any rules with this post . . . didn't know which category it would fit under, so feel free to move/remove if it's not kosher to post this kind of stuff.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Uh... It's most likely not worth anything. Hey, I'll go ahead and take it out of your hands, so you don't have to deal with it, I'm cool like that.

this is pretty cool...

Not sure what its worth, but if it means something to you and you think its cool, so be it...

I would try to frame it....My aunt gave me a Jack Dempsey autograph she got from the man in 1959 on this little piece of paper...So I got a old fight poster and got it all matted up and framed and it looks real nice...Plus it got by the wife to boot if you do it right... smile.gif

I'm tempted to say that the live gate there was the biggest of all time when adjusted for inflation. Either that or Ali-Frazier I. One of the most important fights of all time, and twenty years from having "antique" status.

Good find.
