I wasn't there but a friend who was at the press conference (and works for La Opinion newspaper) said Floyd announce his retirement........He was crying and saying he retired.

****Update**** Floyd said after his next fight, he will retire. So, he will be fighting one more fight.

Nah... I don't believe it...

Yeah and i saw bigfoot
FrankieJ.
I'm just passing the info along. The guy who I got it from wouldn't lie about it. Either way, I do not beleive he will retire at the end of the day.....even if he did say it.
Gatti Forever
He probally meant Baldomir.
My Butt Itches
say it ain't so...

if floyd retires right now, the floyd nuthugging could surpass the outrageousness of the RJJ nuthugging after he beat Ruiz
FrankieJ.
I've heard it from two people now, Mayweather has retired. But why?
crold1
He's NOT retired. I don't care what he said.
Carlotin
because people booed him and walked out of his fight.

mayweather's as retired as acelino freitas.

I agree with you 100% Crold could you confirm that he said it tho?
crold1
BC says it is so so it is so. I wasn't there. He's just being drama.
tuaman
If so that is one amazing bitch move. My girlfriend pulls shit like this all the time, you don't pay attention to me, you don't respect what I do for you, yadi yadi yada. I hoped PBF wiped his tears with a big tampon if true.

Ya, I agree. I'm not buying this retirement deal at all.....
IkeForPrez
I don't get it. Why SHOULDN'T PBF retire? He's beaten everyone there is to beat, left no stone unturned and with his final domination of the one, true, lineal welterweight champion in Baldomir, should have shut up all those people complaining about him not doing shit since 135.

ahhh...fuck it...I'm just messin.

He's just pullin a "Winky".
FrankieJ.
Fightnews has said, Mayweather will fight one more fight....and then retire.

Underdog
well the haters should be happy that pbf is getting out of the game. when you eat, drink, shit boxing and you aren't appreciated for it I guess it makes you bitter. I wonder how sweet pea had the strength to continue on... maybe it was the drugs???
The Bomb
Oh my God!!! The drama queen has unfolded!!! Fuck Floyd! Oh, so they booed me and now I retire?? So Merchant tells me to put up something extra for the fans (which were scarce) and I retire????

Fuck him! Hell, let him retire! The sport would be a lot better without him. He hasn't proved shit! He has the titles, true... but so has Shannon Briggs at heavyweight and he can't even finish a slow-tempo 12 rounder!!!!

I don't care for Floyd... I feel double fucked tonight! For buying the piece of shit PPV and for missing the live Showtime show. Thank God for Salido... if it wasn't for that fight, the whole night would've been a fiasco.

Sorry for anyone who bought the PPV because it sounds like it DID wind up being a fiasco.

I said 2-3 days ago that this PPV would be worse than the Gatti one, and IMO I wound up right. Viv Harris didn't get taken out by God tonight.

Lord Gaul
Well I guess he doesn't have much else to accomplish. I can see why he would want to fight Oscar more then AM, A big 8 figure payday is all his mantel is missing.

hey! how much did your mom pay for that "I'm with stupid" shirt????

As Public Enemy would say, "Don’t believe the Hype"..

This dude is as retired as Jay-Z, Frank Sinatra and Michael Jordan........ laugh.gif

I hope Floyd doesn't retire and if he does end up being serious then I hope he does fight Oscar or Sugar Shane.. Margarito I still feel won't get past Paul Williams.
Domepeace
I remember Floyd announcing his retirement about five years ago under a similar situation (when Merchant "bashed" Mayweather's performance). If he does retire, I doubt he will go down in history as the greatest ever.

Domepeace!!!

Is it possible that PBF is talking retirement just to gain leverage in the PBF/DLH negotiating?

Very possible.. It could also be a pity party as well.

Where is Hookercut when u need him ? tongue.gif

He said one more fight...probably one fight with Oscar and that's it.

Looks like he'll do anything to get away from Margarito.

Pretty much. At the very least it will get them some extra buys. You can see the tag line already..."Legend vs Legend, both in their final fight wanting to prove who is the greatest."

If he does retire I have no problem with that. I definitely respect those who go out at the top of their game ie Barry Sanders, Robert Smith, and soon to be Tiki Barber. Good luck with the GED Floyd, it's a killa.

difference is sweet pea beat fought hof fighters. & though was also a supremely skilled defender didnt really run or use that hit & run sh**, where a stright right is followed by a f'n capoera dance to get to the other side of the ring, before he tries to lunge in with a straight right again...then back to the capoera routine. lol It wouldnt hurt Mayweather, the GOAT, greater then Ali & Sugar Ray Robinson, To show his dominance over the rest of us peons by taking out a fighter than can be taken out (yeah yeah) Robinson was the greatest, he had nearly every advantage ove rhis opponents & he still, knew that no win is as good as a win that takes the judges out of the equation. But, hey, better to get out now & retire undefeated then actually put it all on the line & go for the gusto.

Or maybe the telecast was right on last ngiht whent hey said..."theres no room in boxing for perfection"

"I know we'll make the De La Hoya fight happen," Mayweather said. "We still got another big fight to do, but if it's not on my terms it won't happen."

from the article....

Looks like the fight with DLH may not happen. DLH isn't going to bend over for anyone, not even for the pretty girl.
Kijis Konar
In reality, apart of Margarito and a possible DLH fight, who else is there for Floyd? Winky is, in my opinion, too big for him, so it's kind of unfair.

The thing is: if Floyd retires next year, he'll be back in 2 years or so.
Butters
I feel kind of sad for PBF, its not his fault he is so boring to watch......or wait, it is.

This is just BS. Go up and fight Margarito and stop being a crybaby.

I got to see the pressconferance cause this sounds like an all time bitch-conferance.
xxx
That little twat is playing a Sugar Ray Leonard. Trying to get a better deal with Oscar which he shouldnt. Also as long as HBO feeds him stiffs for 6-8 millions, he will not retire.
Gloves99
Beating up another slow old journeyman. Crying afterward like a bitch. Ready to retire than face challenges.

This is the P4P King? Is there any further proof needed that the sport of boxing is having a mental breakdown?

PBF will go down in boxing history as a supremely talented coward. Yes, he did it his way: his way was taking the easy way out. Essentially on vacation for the past three years, he's spent it ducking the real challenges and fighting shlubs, geezers and, in Baldomir, a journeyman whose claim to fame was feasting on a used-up Gatti and besting the overrated Judah.

Adios, Floyd. You're not worthy of mention alongside the greats. They fought any and all comers. At your peak, you fought the easiest paydays.

It would be a boring one-sided fight vs. Margarito too...Margarito has never fought anyone with near the boxing skills of Mayweather. Floyd just can't get his props from you folks, no matter who he fights, the fight is always so one sided there's always someone supposedly tougher you say he should fight. No wonder he wants to retire.
Butters
But who has he fought latly to get props from "folks like me"?
GFoyle
I'm almost speechless.

I don't know what to call him anymore. Just week or so ago, he kept telling people how he is gonna dominate the sport for years.

WTF do you mean, "no matter who he fights". He was getting plenty of credit at jr LW and LW. Problem is his best opponent in 4 years has arguably been fucking Baldomir!!!
Chingao!
From here on out, Mayweather is going to speculate retirement after EVERY fight to try and push more sales for the next....marketing ploy and nothing more....It was just days ago he was saying he was going to fight for ten more years....He simply doesn't understand that the majority of people are turned off by classless arrogance...no matter how good you are...Ali he is not ....
Moolz
This is also why boxing isn't the same anymore.. Big time boxers clammering over money, not taking any chances with fights that don't bring them any revenue and it reeks.

A talented fighter/athlete like Pretty Boy will slowly regret taking so much time off that eventually the very thought he called retirement will turn his stomach while his prime starts to wither away and he'll come back for a few more fights, pfft.

And Floyd will easily UD Oscar. There is no way at this stage of Delahoya's career, being as old as he is and as inactive, that he beats a guy as great and fast as Floyd. I mean the only guy DLH has fought in over two years is the past his prime and overweight Mayorga. Give me a break. When the odds come out, Floyd should be 1-3 or 1-4 favorite vs. Oscar. Anything else is absurd.
Butters
Hey if DLH put up a performance like he did against tito then this will be the outcome of a PBF - DLH fight

Floyd's as fast as Sugar Shane and Shane came up from lightweight and UD'd Oscar twice. You can't possibly think that if Oscar couldn't beat Shane in his prime, that now that he's years older he's going to beat Floyd. Its absurd!
