poor?
and btw fuck you boya my ac broke last night im sitting here in the sweat box as we speak. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
-------------------

warning long post ahead, bad grammer likely.
-----------------------
Speaking from my own exp i will say this on the matter. Racist people are usually small minded morons. They are unable to see the larger picture.

Where i work about 70 percent of the inmate population is black. Maybe more thats just a guess. So yes, of course i have heard a ton of racist comments from white coworkers. Its inevitable when no other African Americans are present. Everything bad in the jail, violence, theft, etc etc is attributed to them by some.

I counter with its all location. If we were in Russia, the inmates would be largely white. They would still be fucking shit up because they would still be inmates and (largely) morons. If we were in Alaska, they would probably be white and Eskimo, and they would still be fucking things up, yatta yatta yatta.

I usually get a snort in reply, or a "i dont know....". Because racists are fucking stupid. I swear to god, i have two white coworkers that i thought were good freinds (been out drinking and hoe scheming several times) that quit talking to me because i declared early on there was no way i could stomach 4 more years of Republican leadership in this country. I didnt know it was that big a deal to them until the election drew closer and these two dipshit motherfuckers are still sending me (or rather forwarding me, like the sheep they are) bogus ass emails about Obama being a muslim and pushy about "one of them" running the country.

I was more incredulous than anything, you think you know someone but in reality a lot people are really, REALLY fucking stupid. I dont miss either of them. I have no need of stupidity on the scale that they brought. To put it in perspective these dudes actually busted out "You know he bears a lot of resemblance to the bibles description of the Anti Christ....... I was simply speechless. I have known both these dudes for over 8 years.

After the speechless part past, it turned into me busting out laughing and making fun of them at every opportunity until they stopped talking to me.

end story. Sorry there was no titties or violence. Thats all i got.

it should also be noted that i deal with a lot of reverse racism as well. Again, small minded individuals looking to blame someone else for their problems. Doesnt bother me.

Absolutely the same deal here for me. I'm staring across the room at one of the ladies in the office who forwards apocalyptic Obama e-mails ON OUR WORK E-MAIL system, not even our personal yahoo or hotmail accounts! Crazy.

Sorry about your A/C, DangerDong. You're gonna be a porch monkey til you get that unit fixed.

Sorry bro, but that's a misconception.

Even in sunny San Diego I hear the "Obama's a muslim" and "You know the antichrist is supposed to be a good speaker that draws a lot of attention and has black skin." Granted there's a lot of military here, but I'd be willing to bet that people all over these idiotic United States hear shit like that.

Id like to see the word die. I think everytime its used its an insult to both the blacks and whites that shed blood during the Civil Rights Struggle.

Like any other word it all depends on the context in which it is used. The word certainly has an ugly history to it, but you can't ignore context and simply say that the historical ugliness of the word controlls its use or meaning all the time.

It can still be derogatory, but it isn't necessarily derogatory all the time. It is, however, always vulgar.

This thread has been a good conversation and that is a bit surprising for the internet. I grew up in Baltimore City and have had black friends since I was a kid. That word has never been a part of my vocabulary. I can't say i haven't and don't from time to time used nigga in text messages and what not with friends as a term of endearment. I probably shouldn't knowing the history of it, but it would never be used as a demeaning word from me or even spoken out loud where it could offend anyone.

A month or so ago I was standing in line at Rutters to get my Dad some milk. A guy about my age walked right in front of me and several people behind me. I said excuse me sir, we are in line and he called me a racist. I let it go and went up to make my purchase and coughed lightly into my hand, he said move back son, this sickly mother fucker is coughing all over the place. I wipped around and confronted him, stating my anger is without prejudice, I hate assholes and the one in front me has one more word before I kick his ass. Now my response was different than the initial thought in my head. It was there, I'm glad I didn't verbalize it. But I think a little of that is in everyone. It's something many grew up around, be it parents that were ignorant or flat out racist.

Not really sure what I'm getting at, I guess that terms like that are here to stay. "Owning" the word or not using it wont change that. And every person that uses it isn't necessarily a racist. But a lot of the culture of hip hop and youth have given true racists a bit of an out. It doesn't matter if it's an A or an R at the end of it. But the meaning behind it.

I can't pretend to be black or understand the significance of hearing it. I have dealt with racism the other way many times and it's never affected my ability to move onto the next person I meet with a clean slate. It just seems to me if blacks didn't use the word so often amongst themsleves, it would have a lot better chance of being gone. There will always be racism, but it's hard to drop the hammer on a 15 year old white kid that truly loves hiphop and grows up listening to all that, just because of his skin color. The meaning has changed for many, even if the word hasn't.

Do you think that wanting to say it when you confronted the guy was more out of just wanting to say the most hurtful thing you could think of? I know there are always that next level comment that I reserve for when I really want to get at someone, they aren't usually raced based but I could understand that being the case for other people.

I hope so, that's my rationale. But it really was there and I didn't like that. There really wasn't anytime for the why and I've had enough disagreements and even fights before where it wasn't that close to coming out of my mouth. I can get under someones skin without resorting to that. I really don't know man.

I was hanging out with a girl pretty regularly a few months back when one night she was at my house on fight night and I had my normal group of friends over. There was one white guy and his girlfriend there. The rest of the 6 people were blacks, some from work, some were just long time buddies. The white dude got a little too drunk and acted like an ass. After everybody was gone, I apologized to the girl for my boy's bad behavior. She said something like, "Oh, don't worry about it. Heck, I was beginning to wonder if you even had any white friends."

Got me to thinking, I've experienced the backlash from other whites who think something must be wrong with me because a lot of the folks I run around with happen to be black. I've felt it many times from the rednecks around here, and this particular instance made me think the girl was thinking, "Boya is okay, but what the fuck is up with this guy? Why doesn't he have a more ordinary (aka WHITE) group of friends?"

Whatever. She turned out to be a fucking miserable cunt who sucks the life out of every room she enters.

Interesting read. It is indeed unfortunate that the hate continues in the fashion that it does. For so many years blacks have been intimidated, indoctrinated, and subjugated, that some feel that it must be the norm, and continue the evilness, not fully understanding that it is self-hate. Despite my user-name, I am black, and old enough to tell you race related horror stories, but I will not. I don't feel it's germane to the discussion. What it boils down to is this: For four hundred years, blacks have been called niggers, and now some simply believe it, and continue to reaffirm that on a day-to-day basis. Makes no sense to use the word, especially if you are black, knowing it's origin. The sad part about the whole thing is that it is so widely accepted, even the spell check on your computer recognizes the word...

I just watched that the other day and was thinking that when reading these comments.

Good posts from all of you. I don't have much to add but like Boyakasha I grew up around some of the stuff he did but each generation changes for the better (or I hope) and we all carry it forward. When I was in the Navy out of the 15 or 16 people in the Radio Room I worked in 12 were black, all cool and stand up guys from different parts of the US. I think being in my early 20's and working with those guys really made me see that people are just people and not this whole divided thing like were a grew up in some rural town. Like Mark said, being white I have no clue how that word must feel so can't really comment on that part of it.

Prod, it isn't just the South, people are like that all over the US, the Midwest is just as bad or worse in some cases and I have def met just as many ignorant rednecks from places like Indiana, Illinois and Ohio as the South.

At my old job we had a guy who we called white nigga. He was a snow flake, a rap tragic and followed rap and hip hop like no one else we knew. Great guy to boot. Look we all knew that nigga is a word that has an offensive label attached to it. But it wasn't intended to be offensive, no offence was taken to us using it, it was merely said as a way to express this guys likeness to a stereotypical black person who loves rap music. So none of us certainly had a problem saying it in that context. We even had an aboriginal guy calling him it, bearing in mind that if the term is used here, 99% of the time it's in reference to Aboriginal people and is obviously considered offensive.

Having said that, we may have all missed the point completely. And reading through this thread, we probably did. The only point we made in using the word was to stereotype a black person and rap music. Not a black person/inferiority. So from our perspective, it was harmless fun.

edit : forget the reply to lucia rijka. that was stored in my mouse click from a few hrs ago accidentally. but she is nice.

I guess my sig is a fitting enough response for this thread.

My only issue is that the term is used so casually that kids have a hard time comprehending why it's OK in some situations and wrong in others. The argument of it being a acceptable in isolated instances as a "term of endearment" goes out the window when you hear pre-teens casually tossing around the word to one another.
