Ok, for years I have believe the average height for a woman in America is 5-4 and 5-8 for a man. Does anyone have a different answer and a link to a legitamate site that does research on things like this ?

No idea, I would guess 5'10 for a man though.

Average man, just under 70"

Average woman, about 64"

CDC has been collecting data on this for 50 years. The NHANES series. Google that and I'm sure you'll find it.

/edit -- bingo, Mark.

I think 5'8" is reasonable for males. Probably go shorter for females though. Just an educated guess.

5-9 for a man was what it was 15 years ago but people are getting taller and bigger.

I wonder what the curve looks like because 5'4" seems short for women so there can't be a ton below 5'2" but there seems to be plenty around 5'8". Granted, I probably haven't seen even .1% of our population so my perception is useless but I'm still curious.

I would like to see it by region too. I'd argue that the average for women in south Texas where I live is 5' flat.

Most West Coast Maxgatherings are below the average height. It's twenty 5-3 Mexican guys and a 6-10", 125 lb Brit and one Cuban ex boxer who got Ko'd by JMM.
