The scoring has dominated the post-fight discussion, but I'm more interested in talking about what a great fight that was.  Fools are breaking this fight down as caveman vs runner, which is laughable.

IMO, this was high-level boxing in several areas.

Provo cuts the ring off pretty well, but Algieri's movement was excellent.  He went to his left A LOT, but his corner instructed him to move to his right occasionally, and he followed their instructions and it kept Provo off balance.  Algieri also changed the pace of his movement.  Sometimes he got out of there fast, sometimes more slowly, and most of the time, he flicked the jab to allow him to circle away.

Provo goes to the body well, and IMO he did plenty of body work, but Algieri had an excellent guard with his elbows tight.  And he took the shots well when Provo landed to the body.

Algieri threw combos and double and triple jabs all night, went to the body well, used the ropes for support and generally did everything well.  And yet Provo damn near won the fight.  I think we saw two of the five best 140 pounders in the world in that fight.
