New Jersey will be under a limited state of energy emergency beginning noon tomorrow that will restrict gas purchases by those driving passenger car by license plate number, Governor Christie announced this evening.
The executive order only applies to people with passenger vehicles, meaning those walking up with gas cans are not restricted.
The restriction will be in place in 12 counties, including Bergen, Hudson, Morris and Passaic, and will mean those with license plates ending with an odd number can fill up tomorrow and subsequent odd number days.
Those ending with an even number can fill up on even days, starting with Sunday.
Those with specialized plates or those not displaying a number will be allowed to make purchases on odd-numbered days.
The counties affected by the restriction are Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Middlesex, Morris, Monmouth, Passaic, Hunterdon, Somerset, Sussex, Union and Warren. The restrictions were enacted by an executive order signed by Christie this evening.

The gas restriction is necessary because the Board of Public Utilities found that there is a gasoline "shortage of a dimension which endangers the public health, safety, and welfare," according to the executive order.
"As New Jerseyans continue the long process of recovering from Hurricane Sandy, it's imperative that our families have secure, reliable access to essential supplies like fuel,” Christie said in a statement.
“Right now, the impact of the storm, particularly the continuance of widespread power outages, has created the disorderly sale of gas – including long lines, out of operation stations, and stations facing shortages,” he said.
Christie and state Attorney General Jeffrey Chiesa pledged strict enforcement of the restriction.
“Those who choose to disregard this order will be prosecuted to the fullest extent permitted under the governor’s state of emergency authority," Chiesa said.
Christie notified local officials in a conference call on Friday, according to Bergen County Executive Kathleen Donovan.
A news release from Christie’s office explained the rules of the restriction this way: "Once in effect, all retail dealers of motor fuel will be required to only sell motor fuel for use in a passenger automobile bearing license plates, the last number of which is an even number, on even numbered days of each month. Likewise sales will only be permitted to passenger automobiles bearing license plates ending in odd numbers on odd numbered days of the month. Specialized plates – or those not displaying a number – will be considered odd numbered plates."

I have no power or heat but I'm much luckier than most
I almost missed killing the spam around here.
Hope everyone else is well
You got hot water? Run the shower and keep the door closed; it's temporary sanctuary. That's what I did every night the past week.

Sorry about the hurricane. I hope you are back on your feet soon.
that's why I've always loved you dread

So, is there power back on by you, or are you just hosed? How long til there's some semblance of normalcy back?
No power by me yet
luckily we have 4 inches of insulating snow to keep the house at a toasty 45 degrees right now.
A lot of people would say we have it bad but literally 100 yards south of me everyone had water in their living spaces where I just had my basement flood. My brother had over four feet of the Great South Bay come through his kitchen and living room. Luckily he was only renting but he won't be back for months if ever. If you see anything on the news about the south shore of Long Island around Lindenhurst to Amityville that would be where I am. I was supposed to get power back yesterday but then that Nor'easter came through with wind gusts to 60 and that damn snow. It's just stopping now.
You asked if I'm hosed?
These boards are in better shape than I am right now.
Luckily I have a place to stay but it's like going over and posting at DogHouse or Boxing Scene. lol
