Here is an idea for a "tournament" to determine the best champion between 147 to 160 for the last thirty years. I have taken every champion (WBA, IBF, WBC, WBO) from 1980 to 2012 to put into mythical match-ups on this forum. We would start with welterweight (62 fighters including honorable mentions Julio Cesar Chavez and Hector Camacho) which would be 31 fights. I will start with the most recent champion vs. the oldest champion on the list and then work both sides of the list until we get to the middle. I will put these into polls on this forum for each Maxboxing member to vote on. Whichever fighter gets the most votes moves on to the next phase of the tournament. Is anyone interested in this?

I will start this Friday 9/21 at 11pm ET with the first three fights. I will do three fights each Friday night at 11pm ET over the next several weeks. I will see which Maxboxing members pick which fighters to win from week to week to see who will go on to the second round of the tournament.

Nah, it's just not a great topic of discussion on these boards. Give it a shot, maybe it will catch on. I'll participate.

Will do. Look for it this Friday night around 11pm ET. I like your poster of Erik Morales on your sig. Did you notice my sig? I took this picture with Erik in the parking lot of the Alliance Arena in Chicago right after his fight with David Diaz in August 2007. He definitely won that fight. It was a homwtown decision for Diaz for sure.

If you have 62 fighters at welter, why not just make it 64 and do a NCAA Tourney bracket-like tournament?

It will have to be 64 now because for some reason I left off Tomas Molinares. So I will add him and Tyrone Trice. Although Trice was never officially a world champion, he did give Simon Brown two tremendously tough battles.

...or 68 fighters and have 4 "play-in" fights. First suggestion - Tomas Molinares vs Jorge Vaca.

Whoa! Good action fight for sure and I will take you up on it. As a matter of fact, I left Molinares off the list for some reason so I added him and Tyrone Trice so there is an even number of fighters. I will make it 68 if you can think of four more welterweights that would be good to throw in.
