True, it's just so much deeper now. But they were bad ass. I hated Wilander but the dude was as good as it gets for a brief stretch. Vilas was a little older by the time I started watching.

But they all lost at the French Open. I may be jumping the gun here. But 4 years without losing one match at like 22 or 23 yrs old is a hell of a start.

yep, his consecutive winning streak on french soil is pretty sick. btw, the clay in rg is gettin faster and faster every year according to players and experts hence nadal's transition to grass after a couple of weeks is not that drastic, except his left handed spins dont have that high bounce on grass as it does on clay, which coincidentally gives rfed problems on his backhands.

i still say rfed could win on sunday with the right factors goin his way. hes probably gonna be more agressive and attack the net more and intelligently. u cant wait on nadal, the kid doesnt make too many unforced errors and hes more than willin to grind it out for 5 hrs.

I don't hate Phil but I can never seem to  bring myself to fully root for him.

If Tiger doesn't win I want Adam Scott and Chucky Three Sticks.

I like the way Phil plays, he's entertaining but I dont find myself rooting for him.  I wouldn't mind seeing Justin Rose win.

Yeah, I don't mind Rose either.

I'll pretty much be happy so long as Sergio or Vijay doesn't win.

looks like Tiger had some rust to shake off but he just placed a shot out of a fairway bunker to about 4 feet for bird.

and while people talk about the pairing of phil and tiger I wouldnt be surprised in the least to see scott be the better golfer through their threesomes today and tomorrow

I love watching him play. I always cheer against Tiger. I like Rose as well. There really aren't many golfers I dislike. Woods is cool and I love watching him play. He is just too good for my taste. And the "fans" make me want to puke.

Davis Love & Jim Furyk are about the only guys I hate.

LOL, The name Davis Love III, it seems so pompus and he walks like an aristocrat. Furyk is so fucking slow. I can't even imagine playing with him.

That came to a boil at Winged Foot for me. Monty was sitting in the fairway for about 20 minutes waiting for that bastard to putt. He still changed his club and hit that putrid shot. But I have hated Jim ever since. He annoyed me before that.

Phil isn't looking sharp.

I don't root against Tiger, I like watching somebody that good at what they do.   With that said, I just like to see good golf in general.

Me too, I tend to cheer against whoever is winning. It's in my nature. Duval was my favorite player ever. My only strong cheering interest is for Europe in the Ryder Cup.

This guy Karlsson is no joke. He might be there all week.

I hate Davis Love III as well but I have a funny story about him.

I can’t remember the tournament but a few years back a PGA Tour event was played in the greater Boston area. This was right after Anika had played in a tour event and Love was one of the most vocal objectors to her receiving a sponsor’s exemption to play. My buddies camped out at one hole and then when Love’s group came around he hit a short drive, and I don’t think he’s exactly known for bombing it, and my buddy said “Hey Davis! Annika got there with a 3 wood!” to which Love replied with a 1 fingered salute.

He is an ass though. Remember when he had that guy kicked out of a tourney a few years back to cheering for Woods?

I like tennis, but I hate the French Open.  Too slow, too much burnt sienna.

I love the French open because the court is slower and there are more rallies. I like the way they slide around on the clay. That is the one surface that Federer is mortal.

I think Roger may be the greatest player of alltime.

My favorite alltime player and maybe the most overlooked was Stefan Edberg. He had good quickness and a good serve and volley game. Decent enough groundstrokes to compete. He won mutiple titles at Wimboldon ane Austrailian and the US Open. Only one he didnt get was Paris.

He isnt exactly Corey Pavin, thats for sure.

Ernie made a comment earlier about Torrey Pines being a great golf course, but I respectfully disagree on the subject. To me it is only getting by on the fact that its so much longer than the rest of the rotation. Id much rather watch the Open at say, Shinnecock Hills, Oakmont, or Bethpage. Its sad becuase if they dont roll back the equipment, the only courses that will provide a challenge will be newer longer venues. The Merions, Pine Valleys, and Pebbles are becoming obsolete without 8 inch rough around tiny fairways.

I disagree about the equipment only because I feel more that you're playing against the field not the course. Naturally the course is going to play into things but everyone has the same equipment available to them so it's not like one person is at an advantage because of it.

I can tolerate the French in the later rounds when the talent level makes it intriguing.  But a 12 seed struggling to put away a no-namer in 5 sets in the 2nd round?  sleeping.gif  Can't stomach it.

Wimbledon's my favorite, and my favorite all time is Boris Becker.  His first 2 titles were amazing to watch.  But grass can get boring too sometimes, when you have 2 hard serve-and-volleyers and each point lasts an average of 1.4 seconds.  Remember Ivanisevic-Kraijcek?  That shit was fucked up to watch.  Boom.  Ace.  Boom. Ace.  switch sides.  Boom. Ace.  Boom. Ace.

Edberg was good too, I liked him a lot.  He had heart and always stayed aggressive.

I think Sampras a hair better than Federer.  Prime vs. Prime, one guy wins 6 out of 10.  Pete the advantage on grass, and Fed on clay.

I am going to go play tomorrow morning for the first time since last July.
